These votes demonstrate that the Democratic Party functions not as an opposition but as an enabler of the Trump administration. Its priority is to ensure the uninterrupted funding of the US military while diverting popular opposition with calls for meaningless cosmetic changes to the administration’s efforts to establish a presidential dictatorship.

I really don't understand how this can be viewed as anything other than a win.

Necessary social programs, including taxing and auditing the rich, are getting funded through September while the entire DHS runs out in 2 weeks. That's fantastic. That's the best fucking news I've heard since before the second Trump term began.

[-] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 14 points 14 hours ago

Because people only read the headline and the same negative comments always get the most upvotes.

My theory is if 21 Republicans voted against it then there's got to be some good things in there.

[-] coreray00@discuss.online 2 points 12 hours ago

I don't understand your position. Can you help me understand your point of view?

I'm stuck in my point of view, and all I can think of is if 20 nazis figured they could build another concentration camp for children, if they didn't vote for a bill, would that make the bill that continued funding the first one good on the whole? Even if it funded some libraries?

[-] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Ask yourself why the house freedom caucus is voting against it. It's because they wanted more funding for ice and more damage to the working class and less oversight on the rich.

The Republicans are running all three branches of the government elite class supporting Democrats are helping. We got to take wins when we get them.

[-] DaMummy@hilariouschaos.com 12 points 15 hours ago

While Trump is building concentration camps throughout the country for people to spend their whole life in! It's so thoughtful of him to not only have a jobs program to build them, but to also house people! Let's hope he also puts signs above the warehouses with something like "Work will set you free"

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 10 points 15 hours ago

That's exactly what loses all funding in 2 weeks as a result of this bill.

Wsws.org is one of those sites it's really hard to take seriously, and their articles that do get boosted here are still the sanest takes from the website.

It's basically rage bait, it's hard to believe their writers can consistently misinterprete so much

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 5 points 15 hours ago

You have to ask yourself, "What would Leon Trotsky think of this?" Then you'll understand where the Worldwide Socialist Web Site is coming from.

You can peruse their Marxist library if you need more ideas.

[-] minorkeys@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Because the priority right now isn't social programs and funding for shit Trump will just cut when the GOP gains unopposed power and eliminates democracy FFS. Getting a cookie by funding the elimination of democracy and the dissolution of rights isn't a fucking win.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online -2 points 16 hours ago

If Trump has that power he hasn't demonstrated it, nor would any sort of congressional vote actually matter in that context.

[-] minorkeys@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

If he demonstrates it, it's too late to stop...

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 12 hours ago

Enlighten me, then why hasn't he?

[-] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 4 points 15 hours ago

Lmfao DHS will not run out of money. Remember when a private donor gave $130m to the military to cover wages? Yeah, that will happen again.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

DHS got 75 billion to spend over the next decade in the BBB already...

The funding bill that just passed covers most of the government till September, but DHS just till end of next week, like 10 days.

They're not gonna run out of money, but they have to burn that 75 billion down while all the good shit that wouldn't have gotten any money gets funded.

Like, if you're not happy with this, what would it have taken?

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 6 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

130M is fucking nothing. The "Big Beautiful Bill" that the GOP passed previously via VP tiebreaker and house reconciliation gave the DHS 85 Billion dollars. It's going from $85,000,000,000 that they've already spent down to $0.

In theory, the GOP could do another similar bill with reconciliation, but why they haven't is unclear and any DNC resistance would be futile.

[-] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org -4 points 14 hours ago

I’m just pointing out that there is a private part willing to fund ice. You still seem to be of the opinion that this is going to end. Please wake up, for your own sake.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 12 hours ago

Look, if some mix of 7 DNC and IND decide to cross the aisle to fund the DHS and ICE, then you will have every right to be outraged about them crossing the aisle to fund the DHS and ICE. You're not, in my opinion, justified to be mad about funding the IRS, SNAP, Medicaid, Housing Development, Education, Forestry Services, etc.

[-] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 0 points 11 hours ago

You still think this is a 4 year thing don’t you?

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 0 points 11 hours ago

Oh, I'm a hardcore democrat. Yeah. I say, figuratively, Fuck Trump but I would literally consensually fuck Obama.

People who oppose the DNC are, in practice, opposing taxing the rich, opposing socialized healthcare, opposing free education, etc. They oppose progress.

[-] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 1 points 11 hours ago

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm. They are the same party.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

To choose one of countless examples: 214 DNC and 4 GOP voted aye on the discharge petition to force the vote on releasing the Epstein Files.

[-] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 1 points 11 hours ago

And… they don’t actually release but 1% of them. So, what did the DNC do again?

I dunno about you, but “redacted” is not “released” unless they are hiding something.

And “redacted” == failure.

[-] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 1 points 11 hours ago

"They" don't do anything because "they" don't have them. GOP Donald Trump and the Department of Justice went into Contempt of Court because he didn't release them. He also cannot be removed or held accountable without 20 GOP senator votes in addition to the DNC + IND.

To me the solution seems pretty fucking clear. Remove 20 GOP.

[-] whereIsTamara@lemmy.org 1 points 10 hours ago

So we are on the same THEORETICAL page, and not at all suggesting this… you mean ki–remove them? 🤤
