personally I would rather turn a hour long commute across state lines into a four hour long walk.

think of how thick my calves would be!

[-] Themosthighstrange@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

trains, busses, and bikes exist

[-] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 4 points 5 days ago

That and I was talking more about infrastructure where you could easily walk to places too instead of having to drive everywhere

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago

maybe where you live. closest train station is an hour away from me.

closest bus stop is an hour away from me

riding a bicycle would make my hour long commute two hours.

if I drove to a bus stop and rode a bus the rest of the way to work it would still take me two hours.

it's always a black or white solution with you people and you never think of the grey area. dare I say at least 50% of the US population falls into the grey. if a solution fails to accommodate for more than half a population it's not a solution, it's just ineffective.

it always interesting to people who say 'with current levels of funding'.

because taxes should be going to give you a closer train stop.....

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago

they should, but that's not the reality we live in.

[-] wholookshere@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 5 days ago

the only way things improve is we start demanding better.

lying down won't do a thing

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago

then demand it of your leaders, don't demand it of your equals. we're just as helpless as you are.

[-] wholookshere@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

what makes you think I haven't been?

if we don't band together to demand it, what will actually change?

also please quote where I demanded anything of anyone here.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

awful lot of we being thrown around for you to not be implying something...

[-] wholookshere@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

"we" as in those who demand better.

not we as in those who don't care.

I never said you have to do something. just that things don't get better that way...

I also loved the moved goal posts of "demanding you do something" to "implying".

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

you used the informal royal "we". as in "we the people". you said we start demanding better.

in that comment you are stating that we demand.

if anyone is moving goal posts, it's you.

[-] wholookshere@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

all I said there was things don't change unles leaders are made clear.

if that's demanding action out of you, sure. but I never once said you, specifically you ( or any individual), do anything.

if saying the only way things change is by demanding changes then yes, I guess I demanded something of you

[-] saigot@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

Only cause you don't go to your city council meetings.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago

you know what they say about assumptions...

[-] TheBat@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Says the guy unnecessarily inserting USA in the discussion.

We are well aware your transit sucks. No need to tell us again and again.

[-] python@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Average walking speed is 4km/h. So in four hours, you'd go 16km. If it takes you an hour to go 16km by car, then you'd literally be faster on a bike, because you can go past traffic without stopping

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

60mph, takes an hour, 60 miles distance.

that's around 97km.

I guess my math was wrong, at 4km/h it would take me 24 hours, not 4.

๐Ÿ‘ thanks!

edit: why the downvotes? the math checks out.

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 1 points 3 days ago

Go and look up what the actual average commute speeds are in any city you care to mention. No-one's travelling at 60mph the entire distance.

[-] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

you're right, speeds and distance are variable dependent on multiple external sources. Traffic, weather, time of day, windspeed, direction of travel, temperature.

should I also account for those or is it ok to just use average values?
