CW Transphobia, Homophobia, Dysphoria, family abuse, Australian nonsense
So Australia has this reactionary federal senator, called Pauline Hanson. She's always doing these little media stunts (wearing a Burka to parliament to be Islamophobic etc). On the federal public holiday that is so called "Australia day" she released a transphobic song that was a collaboration with a failed former TV star/musician/trophy wife called Holly Valance, who has also been a reactionary ghoul for a while. She was famous for being on a Soap Opera called Neighbours, tried to become a singer but didn't get very far, married a rich guy just to get divorced etc.And it's transphobic anti-woke trash. Quality wise it's dogshit. Like you couldn't do an ironic camp cover of it or something, because it's so characterless.
But it's kind of made me sad. Which is I guess there intention, but for a different reason. Like I'm in my late 30s and Pauline Hanson has been around since I was kid, just being a piece of shit. It's like wow the same dumb shit from my childhood.
My dad was really homophobic. He worried I'd be gay (lol he was right just not in the way he thought). So he'd buy me all these swimsuit magazines. Not like hardcore porn, just bikini stuff. But I had quite a few posters of Holly Valance (she's a few years older than me and was probably most famous when I was in high school) on my teenage wall and I would stare at those amongst others with yearning I now understand was dysphoria.
And I don't know it's just fucked to hear about someone who you haven't thought about in decades and they're a piece of shit. Like fuck I don't want little domino Holly Valance fails her music career, big domino I get murdered transphobically. That's so chicken shit.
At least Natalie Bassingthwaighte (another Soap Opera actor of the time who had a more successful music career) is a trans ally.
