What is it with the extremely common tendency for some of the most privileged groups out there to act like they're some of the most marginalized individuals ever?
(directed towards hypothetical AI bro) Like, you are given some of the most advanced technology humanity has to offer, it's given to you on a silver platter, for pennies on the dime. Data centers are constantly being built nearly everywhere, and you probably don't even have to experience the worst of climate change resulting from it, given you can probably just crank up the air conditioner even higher or install dozens of premium grade $300 HEPA filters on every single vent of your house. Almost everything in this world has been designed for people like you, and you still have the fucking gaul to act oppressed because people don't like that you take part in an environmentally destructive hobby?
Also, not to mention, these people would, ironically, probably be willing to do the exact same things to "others" (POC, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, anything that isn't a straight white man) and they wouldn't even bat an eye. I can describe these people in one single word, and that is cynical. They want something (in this case, sympathy) and they will do literally anything to get it, even if it means this type of shit.
To paraphrase Paolo Freire: equality looks like oppression to the oppressor.
If people call them out on how their actions are negatively impacting others, they get defensive because they feel like they're losing something.
They want to be the oppressed underdog because every narrative they've ever encountered portrays said underdog as the hero.
The peril of having mythical struggle as one of your cultural pillars.
Not to get all
about it but a bunch of ancient prehistoric myths concern the overthrow of the old cosmic order to usher in the new current age. It’s a very old and common story. So even the gods have to be an underdog at some point to justify being on top. They had to earn it.
