HP should not be locking features of a printer. You should be able to just do a factory reset and have everything usable.

We are in the Pre-Enslavement stage. Soon we will only do what we are told.
Not yet, but we'll get there. They're still confident we won't, but those types always think that, until they get surprised one day.
We've got a few steps to go before we reach that point, but the people always get there, eventually.
