Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.
Rules:
-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --
-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --
-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --
-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --
-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--
-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--
-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --
-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --
Imagine how hexbear would react if a western country were to ban a site like onlyfans under the pretence of "protecting national morals, cultural values and social order".
if a western country were to ban onlyfans it would almost certainly be in the broader context of the continued rightward political shift. in a vacuum, i don't necessarily think getting rid of onlyfans is a bad thing.
I dont disagree with China banning onlyfans, but i find the rhetoric they use extremely troubling. It is the same rhetoric used by fascists and other social conservatives to justify crackdowns on queer rights and expression.
That rhetoric isn't fashy coming from a country without a fascist movement. Like my grandparents talk like this. It's old people talk.
i could be convinced that rhetoric like "social order" is inherently fashy but ultimately it seems like it mostly depends on the broader social context, doesn't it? i couldn't tell you a thing about china but it seems like the meaning behind the words probably isn't the same
Until I see some official sources, I won't believe that they're calling it "western moral decay" or whatever they're quoting it as. It wouldn't be the first time western media intentionally mistranslates or outright fabricates quotes.
China has reactionary elements in its leadership at least since Zemin, if not Deng. They deserve critical support but let's not pretend that they aren't led by rightists who would have been sent to the countryside if Mao was still around
While I agree ,porn is like one of the few things Mao would have the same exact views on as the current leadership
Some of them or their parents probably were sent to the country side when Mao was around
It is troubling, but still most of us don't live in China, don't have Chinese citizenship or don't pay taxes directly to China. It is their internal affair and they don't force other countries to adopt their policies like West
