The cover for the airbox on this Honda generator hinges open to the left, but the frame rail is directly in front. The airbox is also bolted to the engine from inside (behind the filter).

I've throughly looked over this and there is no way to open that airbox unless you unbolt the engine from the frame, or perhaps modify the lid hinges with a saw so it doesn't have to swing as far to come off.

This one looks most promising.

For anyone who's having the same problem, undoing the two mounts underneath the frame at the air cleaner end will give you just enough play to push the engine away from the bar and open the cover just wide enough to push the hooks through the setting pins. You'll probably need two people.

So ... yeah.

Edit: If you don't have a second person, you can probably pull the engine back with a ratchet strap after unbolting the mentioned mounts.
