Everything feels so superficial, consumerist and gross. Like, it always was, but we used to at least have a counterculture to it. The only thing close to a counterculture is anti-woke shit which I think is going to bite us in the end.

I feel like I'm getting more misanthropic lately and I don't like it. But I feel like most people are just getting kind of shitty and sucked into "the game", more so than usual. Opposition to this is brushed away as bitter or "angry at the world".

But like, sometimes angry bitter people have a point? I think the total rejection of anger is dangerous, similar to not allowing people to be sad.

Everyone wears this mask of charisma, but it's suffocating and pretentious.

Some recent movies I really enjoyed. Some movies can have triggering scenes but you can check IMDbs parental guide

  • Shallow Grave (1994), LOVE THIS ONE. Danny Boyle was such a fun director in the 90s
  • The Fall of Usher (1928), abstract gothic silent film adaptation of Edgar Allen Poes poem, the cinematography is beautiful and incredibly goth
  • May (2002), a quirky horror film about a quirky girl
  • The Girl With the Needle (2024)
  • Sorry, Baby (2025)
  • Bad Timing (1980)
  • How to Blow Up a Pipeline
  • Run Lola Run
  • Good One (2024)
  • Mr Klein (1976)
  • Everything Is Illuminated (2005)
  • Primal Fear
  • Aftersun (2022)
  • Vidas Secas (1963)
  • Frybread Face and Me (2023) [Native American Cinema]
  • No One Knows About Persian Cats [Iranian]
  • Atanarjuat The Fast Runner [Native American Cinema] -Smoke Signal [Native American Cinema]
  • The Hourglass Sanatorium
  • Rats! (2024) A movie for scene kids!
  • Read My Lips (2001)
  • Stoker (2013)
  • Beauty and the Beast (1946)
  • Orpheus (1950)

I have watched the Hourglass Sanatorium. Deeply confused lmao but I liked the surrealist vibe, too much nudity for my taste, also I saw the director has anticommunist brainworms apparebtly

Solaris is pretty good surrealism. Takovsky wasnt anticommunist, he left the USSR tho because they didn’t support cinema

I know it may not be very 'based' to recommend a streaming service but Mubi has great stuff on there and is a much better use of your time than any social media
