The American establishment will never allow the precedent of sending a former president to jail
For typical American president war criminal shit no, but there is also a sort of unspoken gentleman's agreement between the two parties that they both know they work for the same people and you respect the peaceful transition of power between the two sides (of the same coin). Gotta keep up the illusion of giving Americans a choice in government.
Trump was too arrogant and stupid to understand this and continues to throw a years-long temper tantrum after he lost.
I dunno, it would be completely unprecendented but not only did he violate the gentleman's agreement, the resistance :lib s want his head on a legal platter and won't stop until they get it.
