95 ton, 76 000hp electric motor. i feel like that may be important context.

I'm planning on installing one on my bike.

I thought about using it in a hairdryer

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

No, it's the other way around: you actually install your bike on that motor

I see many people here interested in what it is actually used for

Motorn driver en luftseparationsenhet (ASU) som kondenserar atmosfärisk luft så att syre och kväve separeras till rena gaser som kan användas i ståltillverkningsprocessen.

Which DeepL loosely translates to

The engine drives an air separation unit (ASU) that condenses atmospheric air to separate oxygen and nitrogen into clean gases that can be used in the steelmaking process.

The motor is going to a steelwork in India.

Big motor means big conductor means exponentially less resistive losses. More volume to disappate heat. Big motor has more core laminations which means less reactive losses.

Big motor is very expensive.

Jokes aside. What do they use it for?

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

From the article: The customer is a factory in India.

It is apparently saving the energy equivalent to 10 000 cars for a year.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

I guess ships? Or to spin a dynamo to create electricity /s

[-] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

The article says its for an "air-separation-unit", "luftseparationsenhet". For a steel factory in india
