Matrix, as it stands, is garbage.
It's good for small to medium communities. Where it fails is at scale. It has no built-in moderation and even 1st party mod bot is useless and the performance is just bad.
I disagree with this. The feature disparity is massive.
Matrix CAN be good for small communities, but as it stands, it doesn't come anywhere close to Discord for small medium or large communities.
I don't use Matrix but I've been considering trying to move my friends to it from Discord. What about it is garbage?
It's worth using however the platform could use more refinements in terms of reliability and organization. As there's an issue where sometimes people cant read encrypted group chat messages.
Honestly, I suggest that you just try to use it. The cracks will show very quickly.
Yes but soon it'll be better than Discord. Sadly not because Matrix would've improved, but because Discord went downhill really hard.
Ehhh Linux was rough around the edges for me in 2019 however today it's really smooth and I use it all the time now. The same thing will happen with Matrix, it just takes time to build the foundation. Open-source projects always start out basic.
Let's hope you're right, and Matrix improves by a lot.
Matrix doesn't have the host of bots that discord has though, so it's going to be a long time before discord actually gets shitty enough to force people to leave.
