oh no they got to live in one of the most advanced societies on the planet which still holds the high water mark for equality among people living in a large industrialized nation how tragic.

But they didn't have access to the latest and greatest consumer goods. And as we all know, consumer goods are what bring happiness and contentment to societies and the soul.
