Yep its a shadow drop. Out now on steam at least. No idea if its any good or not. At least the gfx are shiny. Never cared much for Oblivion back in the day. (Prefered Morrowind and Skyrim) but I might give this a try one day.

At least its going to feel like a whole new game for me if I get to it, since I played it so little back when I first tried it.

Did they change gameplay or is it just the same game with upscaled visuals?

In a move that has baffled everyone, it's the original 2000's gamebryo engine handling game logic while all 3D visuals have been remade from scratch with UE5 as a graphics wrapper.

They also changed some base combat mechanics to be less floaty, added hit reactions and FX, and added sprinting.

It is a strange Frankenstein's monster that can load mods made for the original Oblivion game and runs pretty shite

Per reddit:

  • New voice acting (mixed in with original voices - each race has a unique voice now)
  • New combat animations with hit feedback
  • Sprinting system added
  • Reworked third-person view (aim was to match Starfield's TPV)
  • New levelling system (fusion of Oblivion + Skyrim...whatever that means)
  • New interface (retains the general aesthetic of the original game's UI)
  • New content with Deluxe Edition
  • Every model/texture in the game has been remade by hand
  • Remastered VFX and SFX, added effects for combat
  • Uses Unreal Engine 5 for graphics, original engine for core gameplay systems.

AFAIK, the new level up system just hands you a bunch of points you can distribute to your attributes freely. The old leveling system was one of the very few things I would mod away every time I played so I'm happy with the change.
