Guess that's what happens when you base a whole country on slavery and grifting.

I'm not USAmerican, but from my knowledge, I think here are two reasons

  1. Geographic location
    When EurAsia saw great destruction in the WW's they were far away and safe. So they could benefit from arms sales and similar stuff. Also got some experts and researchers fleeing from EurAsia, who helped in their development.
  2. Decline of traditional colonialism opening opportunities for them
    Coups and takeover of places which where colonialism and other empires were in retreat.
    The power from the 1st point helped here.

Other stuff like the exploitation and murder of natives and slavery helped them set the base for these two points
