I think that's the norm among compradors in general though; they're libs, so they eat that stuff up. There are even Chinese libs who think America is a model to emulate and that the 8 nations alliance occupation was a good thing. On a completely unrelated note, don't visit Shanghai.
but I want to go back to Shanghai! I never got to visit the former residence of Zhou Enlai or the site of the 1st National Congress of the CPC
Good point, but once you've done that, there are so many other good Red Tourism spots if that's what you're hoping to do. Yan'an, Shaanxi; Nanchang and Jinggangshan, Jiangxi; Shaoshan, Hunan (Mao's hometown, but I would pair this with a Changsha trip since there's not a whole lot else in Shaoshan lol). Honorable mentions Shenyang and Nanjing even though its not for Red Tourism, but there's the Unit 731 museum in Shenyang and the Nanjing Massacre memorial hall in Nanjing which is a good visit as they were just as defining to modern China as the Chinese civil war was.
we need a masterpost on Red Tourism spots in China. and by we I mean, me. I need that
