Introductions
Howdy! This is a comm for new and old users alike to introduce themselves and what their hobbies/interests are. This is also a good place to ask questions on anything you'd like to know more about, and generally to get acquainted with Hexbear and its users.
Rule #1: DON'T DOX YOURSELF - Don't post/comment any personal identifying information. Obviously it's ok to talk about yourself, but make sure there is no information that could potentially lead to doxxing yourself.
Rule #2: BE NICE - Assume everyone making a post here is doing so in good faith. Keep in mind that people introducing themselves may have limited knowledge of site history, in-jokes, etc. Also keep in mind that new people might not have the same understanding of leftist theory and/or knowledge of global politics that you do. We were all there once, so it's not a bad thing to be reasonably understanding and patient with new folks. Likewise, for those who are introducing yourselves, please have an open mind, be willing to interact and make friends, and don't come here with the intent to start fights.
Rule #3: DON'T BE A JERK - Any sort of transphobia, racism, homophobia, ableism, or other forms of bigotry will lead to an immediate ban. Similarly, harassment, being a creep, "chaser" behavior, or anything else done to make others feel uncomfortable will be dealt with harshly. Also try to keep any fediverse drama to a minimum. It's assumed new users are posting here to make friends and not to wade into any previous or existing conflict between instances, so please be respectful of that.
Rule #4: TRY TO BE HELPFUL - It's encouraged to help newcomers wherever possible, including explaining various aspects of this community, providing helpful resources, sharing similar interests you may have, and suggesting comms that they may be interested in.
Rule #5: USE CONTENT WARNINGS - For anything that might be considered a sensitive topic, please use the spoiler format along with a content warning to give people a heads up on what is being discussed.
If anyone has any feedback or any suggestions for improvement to this comm, don't hesitate to reach out to the mods here. Thanks!

Welcome new anarchist friend. If you see ANY insults to anarchists here, please report it as tendency drama doesn't belong here.
What are you reading? Playing?
Thank you, I will! I'm constantly reading a bunch of stuff because I struggle to focus and it's nice to hop between books after a chapter or two.
I'm halfway through Capital vol. 2 rn, burning through Zinn's People's History of the US, Feinberg's Trans Liberation, a collection of solarpunk short stories called Sunvault, and a collection of writings by autistic trans ppl called Spectrums
Right now I can't play anything as my controller has drift in both sticks and trying to fight it and baddies was gonna give me a seizure so I had to stop. I'd been on a replay of Borderlands 2
Wow comrade, you're making it through volume 2? I'm technically a ML, but I never went past 1. People's History was really nice. If you're in the US, you might like Settlers by J Sakai. (Sorry to add to your massive reading list, you have so much going on as it is.) Trans Liberation is basically required reading here, it's good stuff. I'll try to check out the fiction you mentioned.
That's rough about your controllers, it seems to happen eventually. I'm a keyboard guy, but damn holding down control with my pinkie and W with my middle finger is giving me carpal tunnel. I've been playing Hitman and it's been super fun, albiet painful
I'm not just reading vol. 2, I'm enjoying it, underlining, and making notes! Vol. 3 awaits soon lol. No, add away, I'm always excited for more books.
I definitely don't resonate as much with the Feinberg/Butler model of transness, I'm more aligned to Serano's intrinsic inclinations model, but that in no way invalidates Feinberg or Butler, both of whom I've read and respect. I'm trying to read all the foundational works and they're all so good.
I would love a gaming desktop but I'm broke, can't work, just got declined for disability (merry Christmas to me from the us hellstate!) and am unlikely to be hired in my deep red rural small town. Is there a new Hitman? I'm so out of the loop lol
OK wow you know WAYYYY more on this than me. Do you have anything you'd suggest to read on this? Whipping Girl or anything else?
I've been playing Hitman 2 & 3. I'm quite old and busy, so I'll discover something that the gaming community has already known for a long time.
Soooo sorry about being disabled in the US. I find that some of the best comrades are disabled, they seem to really get how terrible the system actually us.
I uh have consistently read over 100 books a year on everything since I was a teen. Plus I would go to the college library and pick a section and just go down the row and read the intro and conclusion to each book so I had the gist and could select the couple best on the subject to read fully. Politics, theory, feminism, sociology, psychology, history, theology, philosophy, economics. I was homeschooled by Christian Nationalists so I've read a TON of that garbage (Hayek, Friedman, Sowell, von Misses, various CN Christofascists) and know their arguments from the inside. I became a leftist because I kept looking up their sources and going "hang on, I'm being lied to"
Oh I've played Hitman 2! I liked that one. Before Borderlands I'd been replaying all the AC games up to Rogue. Im always discovering PS3 games I missed that is old hat to everyone else lol
Yeahhh the us is awful and about to get even worse. The system was always bad, got marginally better and has been crumbling since the 80s. I'm trying to brace for impact but without resources it's gonna be rough.
Was it something I said?
