Howdy! This is a comm for new and old users alike to introduce themselves and what their hobbies/interests are. This is also a good place to ask questions on anything you'd like to know more about, and generally to get acquainted with Hexbear and its users.

Rule #1: DON'T DOX YOURSELF - Don't post/comment any personal identifying information. Obviously it's ok to talk about yourself, but make sure there is no information that could potentially lead to doxxing yourself.

Rule #2: BE NICE - Assume everyone making a post here is doing so in good faith. Keep in mind that people introducing themselves may have limited knowledge of site history, in-jokes, etc. Also keep in mind that new people might not have the same understanding of leftist theory and/or knowledge of global politics that you do. We were all there once, so it's not a bad thing to be reasonably understanding and patient with new folks. Likewise, for those who are introducing yourselves, please have an open mind, be willing to interact and make friends, and don't come here with the intent to start fights.

Rule #3: DON'T BE A JERK - Any sort of transphobia, racism, homophobia, ableism, or other forms of bigotry will lead to an immediate ban. Similarly, harassment, being a creep, "chaser" behavior, or anything else done to make others feel uncomfortable will be dealt with harshly. Also try to keep any fediverse drama to a minimum. It's assumed new users are posting here to make friends and not to wade into any previous or existing conflict between instances, so please be respectful of that.

Rule #4: TRY TO BE HELPFUL - It's encouraged to help newcomers wherever possible, including explaining various aspects of this community, providing helpful resources, sharing similar interests you may have, and suggesting comms that they may be interested in.

Rule #5: USE CONTENT WARNINGS - For anything that might be considered a sensitive topic, please use the spoiler format along with a content warning to give people a heads up on what is being discussed.

If anyone has any feedback or any suggestions for improvement to this comm, don't hesitate to reach out to the mods here. Thanks!

HI hello good evening ! I am Neimi a Belgian transwoman joining you all from bluesky during the ongoing events.

I am 29, living alone i love TTRPGS and books, and Video games and not letting the bad thoughts in my brain.

Also i ~~waste~~ spend a lot of time watching video essays on youtube/nebula and rewatching the longer one (Hbomberguy, Philosophytube, FD Signifier, and pretty much all the youtubers that touch on antifascism and the things we're supposed to fight against.

My medias of choices are Worlds beyond numbers (podcast), Gravity Falls (cartoon), All movies/shows with Tessa Thompson and/or Kristen Ritter, I am one of those queers that are fan of Chappell Roan (but still think she should get her privacy). I hate fascists, I hate the pissbaby southafrican who made an appearance in iron man 2. My main hobbies include making soup and eating soup.

Let me know if you have any questions, requests, need for more details etc....

You didn't ask me, but my Grandma taught me a recipe that she called Quarter Potato Soup.

For each serving you want of soup (so if you're making three bowls of soup, triple the recipe, etc.):

  • quarter pound of diced potatoes
  • quarter cup of diced celery
  • quarter cup of diced onion
  • season with a quarter teaspoon each of salt and pepper
  • boil in a cup of water (a quarter of a quart! haha!) for... more than a quarter of an hour, hehe nothing ever lines up perfectly, sweetie. Just make sure the taters are cooked until you can stick 'em with a fork and it comes out easily

then:

  • quarter cup of cheddar cheese
  • quarter cup of heavy cream
  • pulse with a stick blender until it's the consistency you want. I like mine with a bunch of chunks still in it, but you can blend it smooth, too!
  • add more salt and pepper if you want. Or don't, I'm your Grandma, not your mom, have fun!

You can top with bacon, chives, and sour cream, too, if you want that loaded potato experience. But it's great all on its own. It also tastes really good if you use chicken stock instead of water, but it's really not necessary—the cheese and cream really carry it. But if you want to make it vegetarian / vegan, omit the cheese and cream, and cook them taters in veggie stock! Still a good soup!

Oh, and you can also make broccoli or cauliflower soup in a similar way. Just roast your trees of choice in the oven with a bit of oil, salt, and pepper first. It makes 'em a little smoky so they don't just taste like boring vegetable. You can cook them all the way at 400°F for a quarter hour or a bit then just blend them in at the end, or flash them under a ripping hot broiler for a minute or so until they char, and then cook them in the soup.

Incidentally, about a quarter cup of those (diced up) also makes for a good single bowl of soup. Quarter soup!
