Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

Oh yeah they definitely would. Wasn’t there a small-ish struggle session a few months ago where people were arguing whether Latin America is considered a “Western” country? And some users from Europe were like, “Nuh-uh, over here your kind would never be considered one of us”. The threads felt like those 4-chan who is and who isn’t white discussions.

yooooooooooo that was fucking insane, they ran a Palestinian/Hispanic person off the site, just mask off racism.

Re-reading the thread and the responses are wild. Like much more than I initially thought

America is technically mixed race, but the average white American is 98.5% white (and western european to boot), unlike any "white" person in any Latin country where even the least mixed people are still 20% Native admixed

that's like 90% of Latin America or 75% of South America. They're not white, they're admixed with Europeans. Just like Black Americans are. I know a lot of you think you're white because you're lighter skinned than black people. Arabs and lighter skinned Indians also think that a lot of the time. They're not. Almost everyone in Northern Europe and Anglo America can tell the difference

and tbh even Argentinians don't really look that white to me on average.

Italians also just look different in a way which doesn't exist for Irish Polish or even Russian people. They're darker, and they look more proximal to Arabs or Mexicans depending on who you ask. only from the (visibly darker pigmented) European periphery of Spain

holy FUCK. what-the-hell How are these different from 4Chan comments

i really belive the average white hexbear is seconds away from pulling out the skull mesuring tools. ive also had at least half a dozen white hexbears say argue with me to say that hasanabi is not white and him claiming hes white is the same as a black republican saying racism is over. some even said that if a white European person reverts to islam that makes them not white .

also mind linking that thread?

This is the reply from CatratchoPalestino that started everything I think: https://hexbear.net/comment/4389987

and this is the effort post in response to what had happened: https://hexbear.net/post/1423571

People here always say that whiteness isn't clearly defined then turn into race scientists the second a POC challenges their preconceived notion of who is white lmao.

I've seen your arguments with various crackers on this site, and I have tremendous respect for you to be able to keep your composure around them while standing your ground. This place can get so unbearably white and misogynistic at times... so mad props fidel-salute

I completely missed this one, but its pretty wild. Especially when you see people on hexbear talking about how the Latino community in the US isn't monolithic anytime there is a discussion about American electoral politics.

Then someone who actually lives in Latin America points out how white people within those countries consider themselves to be part of the West and suddenly the crackers feel the need to point out that no, Latinos aren't white? Lol, what fucking clown shit.

Its amazing how quickly a number of whites here forget to stick to all the beliefs they talk about on the regular.
