Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.
What can I post?
- Anything you think is relevant to the mission of this community. Things will evolve over time.

why is “he was 23” the go-to hexbear defense lol, do hexbears think 23 year olds aren’t capable of critical thinking or something. i’m 20 and you won’t find me “accidentally” liking race science on the internet

Sophie Stoll was 21 when she was executed by the Nazis. There's this quote by Traudl Junge:
I remember being 23 once and I never had such fucked up views like the Italian while struggling with almost every facet of life (financially, socially, and mentally to start). The defence via "the person was x years old so how was the person supposed to have critical thinking ability?" is so fucking tiresome and really makes me wonder if this is some anglo white thing.
it IS they infantilize themselves. Theyact like every white person is just a wittle baby who should never face consequences for their actions
and quadruple this effect for white women
Some ppl actually using "he's only 26" as an excuse, where's the fuckin cutoff lmao
apparently if you’re under 30 you are a chud by default
If youre white at any age youre just a innocent little baby who lacks agency :(
Also my main problem with that take is that there is 0 evidence that the dude stopped being a chud, and all points out that he is still a chud
very willingly in this case, the guy's parents were loaded with money and he got the best education possible in the country.
anyone who brags about an American polysci degree should be fucking embarrassed, its a nothing degree, its literally the degree football players sign up for because there's the least amount of work, a fucking 5th grader could get an American polysci degree, its less than worthless (yes i have one)
Yeah... I'm just gonna disengage from that thread and maybe even the rest of the site. I believe people change and there's an inkling of a chance that he may have somehow found his way, but like I've said, I need to see it before I can write that stuff off.
I've missed out on a lot of previous struggle sessions including the ones that have affected some of our fellow EM_POC posters, but participating in this one and seeing how many people on hexbear can so easily write off reactionary thought is seriously disheartening. I just don't have the energy for it anymore.
There's a good fd signifier video on white edgelords and why so many of these cis male white shooters (whether they shoot CEOs or random people) may feel so compelled to commit these acts of violence. I think a lot of hexbears don't want to admit that the CEO assassin is probably closer to the white media rep of the Joker than the American anarchists of the past.
There are so many media representations of white leads committing great acts of violence because they see it as them fixing society or lashing out, Falling Down is a good example especially considered the dude got caught at a McDonalds when he should have been in Mexico already, he is deeply connected to his status as a USAmerican and much like the leads of these stories, isn't going to throw that away.
This right here. I keep seeing people on hexbear talking about contextualizing his situation as a way to overlook his views and its like... Uh. He's a white male from a wealthy family thats drowning in white privilege. The one time he got fucked over in life his view of the healthcare industry aligned with what most of us here can see and suddenly that makes him cool? And as empoc we should just accept that he didn't view us as equals and may still feel that way just because he saw one ray of light in the sea of shit of capitalist society?
