Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?

What can I post?

I think when I wake up in the morning I'll make an effort post on chapo or whatever about this. Leftists fell for the same shit in the 1920s through the 40s and Hitler talked about how easy it was to lure them in several times.

Apparently whites here on hexbear.net need a reminder of how things went down, if they learned it at all in the first place. Then there's Daryl Davis having supposedly "reforming" KKK members, who use him as a screen and call him the n-word behind his back.

While it is possible to rehabilitate reactionaries, it takes time and effort. Sometimes it takes years. Unlearning bigotry (especially racism, sexism, and queerphobia) is a lot like learning a new language. Unless you're immersed in it, you are going to struggle. Learning is immediately undone the second you leave the classroom and enter back right into your native language. People on this Norwegian owl fencing website don't seem to get it.

Also France and rest of the West in the 50s until now

(Thinking about Fanon's issues with marxism specifically seeing what the French communists were supporting in Algeria)

if they learned it at all in the first place

Yeah I doubt it... Would really appreciate the effort post if you get round to it

Okay I have a post all typed up except I can't find the fucking quote I was thinking of. It's from Hitler, Mussolini, or one of the Nazi party leaders. It's something like:

"Communists will shake your hand and welcome you into their meetings, referring to you as comrade, so long as you claim to also be a socialist."

That ring a bell for anyone?

They'll have to excuse me if I'm not lining up to worship at the alter of a guy who is most likely a Yarvin follower and throws out racist dogwhistle like DEI. You can be glad the CEO is dead, hell shit post about the luigi guy in ironic ways ...but I saw someone calling this praxis like.... Huh? Reel it in

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

the responses to that mod thread have me screaming. hexbear users love an opportunity for tailism i guess

Yeah, its a bit awkward to say the least. Like, sure he could have changed his views in the 2 or so years since he went mostly offline, but until I see more concrete evidence I'm not gonna be celebrating him [largely] uncritically like I see some people doing.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Hold on so because he got a bunch of people on Facebook to say yeaaaah kill that CEO.... Hes some kind of hero to be venerated? The same people RIGHT NOW that are celebrating the lowering of charges of the guy that killed the homeless guy? How much of this is "raising class consciousness " vs just bloodthirsty enthusiasm to people that slight them because the latter casts a wide net for certain people for just existing and that includes poc or lgbt folks and the enthusiasm will be just the same I promise you.

"But but for one moment the left and right agreed that a healthcare CEO was a dickhead" This wave will die down faster than the CEO got replaced and the same beckys and chads will be cheering as black folks latino folks rights continually get stripped under this administration. Fuck that CEO..... But what are we doing here i-cant

I woke up and read a few posts along the line of "why are we being critical of him?" and I'm literally fighting back not to go all lenin-rage

Do we not shit on MAGA communists on the regular because they espouse racist and queerphobic views? Or are they ok now becuase "at least they raise class consciousness"? Raising class consciousness without the beliefs to back them up is nothing. Or are those who uncritically support him going to be like all of the Americans that lack object permanence. We're just going to completely ignore that this is just more ammo for the right-wing populist movement in America to glom onto that increased class consciousness to gain more support? Like, gee, I wonder what other times in history right-wingers used increased class consciousness by using vaguely leftist language to gain support? Maybe they need hints???i-am-adolf-hitler scared-fash

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago

Couldn't have said it better myself . Hell to give recent examples, didn't Trump and the other far right waves sweeping across nations gain a ton of prominence on the ammo of false consciousness? The dwindling material conditions being one? I see it like a lot of others on this site pointed out that his guy is a symptom of people's frustration sure. If people wanna use this as point to push leftist messaging absolutely. But all Imma say is temper expectations....

Yeah i was so confused about what people that post was talking about until i actually started browsing and saw people trying to make em a john brown-esqe folk hero.
