Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

I think they found the pictures of Luigi in the hostel, decided “That’s our guy” despite no link between hostel guy and the shooter, tracked him down because they had his face and evidence of where he was going, and planted the evidence when they found him. That “manifesto” was written by one of the cops on their drive to Altoona.
The pictures of man in the hostel are very clearly a different fucking guy than the guy in the taxi who is also clearly a different guy from the shooter. They’re wearing different clothes and don’t even look that much alike.
It’d be hard enough to find a jury willing to convict him if he looked into the camera and said “My name is Luigi Mangione and I am about to murder Brian Thompson for what he did to my mother,” it’ll be even harder to find a jury willing to convict him for a video of a video game character creation screen’s default white man shooting someone.
You know they can just lie about finding it on his person, right?
Ok you made me watch this fucking TikTok since I couldn’t find a text source. He only disputed those things because they were the only things brought up during the prosecution’s justifications for denying bail. The rest of the items weren’t mentioned in this context, so if anything bringing them up in it only would have made him look more guilty.
I do, which is why I sought out a text source for a more complete recounting. I dont know how he responded to what was found on his person because it's not reported on. Anywhere.
The trial is already happening?
All any of that means is they brought a backpack full of all that stuff. None of that is difficult except the eyebrows which imo don’t line up with the video of the guy who actually did the shooting. Who is, again, wearing different clothes than Luigi is in the hostel.

The gun has changed three times now. First a fairly regular gun with subsonic ammo. Second a relatively obscure piece. Now it was 3d printed. The guns changed as many times as Luigi has changed his eyebrow and jacket
None of those things are impossible to get for the civil forfeiture department
