Faye Schulman, born on this day in 1919, was a Jewish partisan and photographer who took up arms against the Nazis who were responsible for killing her family.
On August 14th, 1942, the Germans killed 1,850 Jews from the "Lenin" ghetto (named after Lenin, Poland, where Faye was from), including her parents, sisters, and younger brother. Faye was spared for her ability to develop photographs, and the Nazis ordered Faye to develop their photographs of the massacre. Later, she cited taking a photo of her dead family in a mass grave as the impetus to take up arms.
During a partisan raid on the camp, Faye fled to the forests and joined the Molotava Brigade, a partisan group mostly comprised of escaped Soviet Red Army POWs. She was accepted because her brother-in-law had been a doctor and they were desperate for anyone who knew anything about medicine. Faye served the group as a nurse from September 1942 to July 1944, even though she had no previous medical experience.
During another raid on the Lenin ghetto, Faye succeeded in recovering her old photographic equipment. During the next two years, she took over a hundred photographs, developing the medium format negatives under blankets and making "sun prints" during the day. While on missions, Faye buried the camera and tripod to keep it safe. Schulman is the only known Jewish partisan photographer from this era.
"I want people to know that there was resistance. Jews did not go like sheep to the slaughter. I was a photographer. I have pictures. I have proof."
- Faye Schulman
After liberation, Faye married Morris Schulman, also a Jewish partisan. Faye and Morris enjoyed a prosperous life as decorated Soviet partisans, but wanted to leave Pinsk, Poland, which reminded them of "a graveyard." Morris and Faye lived in the Landsberg displaced persons camp in Germany for the next three years and immigrated to Canada in 1948.

'just look up the most and least attractive hobbies to women' bro i am not trying to brute force rewrite my entire personality to trick normies into fucking me, wtf kind of messed up attitude is that. i wish i could get a lobotomy but just for the parts of my brain that produce the need for human touch. i wish something else could take over this body so i could just sleep instead of farming depression alienation and despair for whatever interdimensional insectoid creature is feeding on my suffering.
This is the most bleak and psychotic idea I've read in a while.
It's also bad advice. You're way more likely to find happiness in a partner if you deviate from the mean in a way that maybe only certain people like, but the ones who like it really like it. Don't round off your edges, your edges are what make you distinctive.
(That being said if your only hobbies are smoking weed, posting on the internet and playing video games it's probably time to branch out to some more enriching interests)
Edit: I looked. Actually with some notable exceptions it's really just a list of pro-social vs. Anti-social behaviors. This is the bottom of the list:
my hobbies mostly revolve around model kits of fictional and historical killing machines which i can't imagine would be super high on a list like this (and if it is it hasn't helped me meet people lol) i have like zero interest in most normiecore activities like drinking or concerts or travel (lmao i'm too poor) or hiking or even eating in public (sensory overload/misophonia, i can't stand the sound of chewing/children screaming etc. but if you tell people that they think you are a psycho or immature) so idk what i would even do with other people. i play videogames to fill time mostly, they don't require much setup or cost after you own the console and games so its something i can do all the time without spending more money. i don't really care about gaming in itself as much as i use it to explore other topics i'm interested in like mecha or parkour or ninjas or military technology. i complain about games more than i enjoy them because my tastes/desires are so specific (and no one will make a decent first person mecha game anymore)
I don't think there's anything wrong with pursuing a new hobby that you normally wouldn't, maybe not for that reason. I started playing violin cause I was bored this year
It's reading btw
BRB, Theory maxxing to get laid.
