From what I'm seeing from Chinese students perspective, Australians seem about as bad as Americans and hate crimes have also ramped massively since COVID
Not to mention Australian media isn't any less racist or hawkish towards Chinese
Admittedly I've also heard similar, not even from PRC Chinese. From Asian diasporic groups, and from friends and family (who are Singaporean).
Yes clearly your partners opinion out weighs the many hundreds of Chinese nationals posting about their experiences on social media
