4chan and the larger gamergate movement took the racism that was still bubbling under the surface of america and sucked it up with a big novelty drink straw back into the forefront of polite society where now it's socially acceptable to say you hate black people, oh I'm sorry "woke", can't say outright you hate black people jusssssssst yet ;)
They don't hate minorities yet mysteriously they just happen to brand every game that has prominent not-white, not-straight characters as "woke DEI Sweet Baby Inc Cultural ~~Bolshevism~~ Marxism."
They just don't want (your existence) rammed down their throats.
In three years there will be a thread on kotakuinaction that claims that both the 4kidz Americanization edits AND the last Airbender movie being whitewashed were both good, actually.

IDK, we have already seen preliminary discourse about new GTA and signs aren't looking good
I don't think we can call those results conclusive since the discourse is more about gamers pre-emptively shitting their pants about GTA possibly going woke
