Looking forward to Final Fantasy 38 where they introduce a new gameplay type where you play turn based but the enemy fights in real time.
FFIV did that; if you hesitated or scrolled around menus, enemies would keep hitting.
7 and 8 did ATB as well, but I think all of the timers are paused when you open any menu
IV was more brutal there. It was a pain in the ass to scroll around for a specific spell or item while Golbez was dabbing on you.
They already did that in multiple games, i like FF but non-turn based combat systems for jrpg sucks donkey ass hard.
