Ah thanks. I'm the sort of person that only plugs things in where they're supposed to be plugged in and checks several times that it is indeed the correct place before I plug it in, and then checks a couple of times that I've plugged it in correctly. It wouldn't occur to me to do it any other way. And I'm no fun at parties!

A usb plug can be made to fit a hdmi socket (hence the 'well you can' comment) but yeah, the pins don't match up so you get nada. Possibly some damage to parts if you get gung ho about jamming it in there
