Ok ok ok why do people lay their houses out differently to mine? 😭😭 I can't find the bloody toaster! (/J but fr I seriously can't find the toaster and nobody else is home)

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

There are some savages out there who, believe it or not, put their toasters AWAY in a CUPBOARD, EVERY SINGLE TIME after they use it. I have resolved that I will never again share a house with such a demented person if I ever have a choice about it

πŸ–οΈ Owning up to savagery here. Although mine goes in a drawer. As does my kettle.

I'd report you to the mods, but now I sit in horror as I wonder what community I've signed up to. 😱

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

The sort of communtiy moderated by someone with a small kitchen paired with a love of cooking and preserving 🀣

As it is the sink and stove are often called on for extra bench space and the spare bedroom doubles as a pantry.

Kettle? Kettle! Do you empty it first ??????

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

No, although it rarely has much water left in it. It's a stovetop kettle, with a nifty folding handle so it does not take up much space. It generally does stay on the stove until I need to heat something else and need the space, which is most days.

That is no way to live. Putting toasters away, pfft! Do they also iron their underwear?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

They live amongst us, having no hand soap in the kitchen because "you should only wash your hands in the bathroom". Unsettling.

When was the last time you cleaned out your toaster? Full confession I can't remember the last time.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Will dob you in immediately to the firies - toasters and electric blankets and unaccompanied candles are the 3 main causes of house fires apparently. And the firies are completely over it. If they had their way, they'd ban candles, toasters and electric blankets from sale. I can see their point.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I do keep all candles on my person to keep them companied.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Absolutely. You should call 000 now and report them.

If you dont locate a toaster
Slap those slices under the grill
Watch and turn them, don't roast-em
Hope that helps you get your fill

They may have had one, but it broke and was discarded. They might even have been hoping you'd bring one with you. They do catch on fire easily, so this is a reasonable hypothesis. You could if you wished acquire one from Kmart or Ikea or Appliances Online or whatever - they are cheap and designed to break easily and be replaced. Capitalism in action. So I didn't replace mine the last time it broke, and now use the grill cos I was feeling ornery. Also, people do change the settings to their own personal preferences AND DON"T CHANGE THEM BACK - which is major uncivilised conduct in a shared kitchen. You might like to acquire one and keep it in your room to protect the settings you prefer. Just clean out the crumb tray regularly so it doesn't catch fire.

I bought a cheap two slice to replace my trusted old sunbeam four slice thinking it was super old and took up too much space. The new one doesn't catch crumbs very well at all and now I've taken to make two english muffins for breakfast. My only downsizing blunder.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Anything that involves muffins is not a blunder. This is my firm opinion.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If it isn't on a kitchen bench, they laid it out wrong.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

^

I can't even find it in any cupboards, I'm beginning to wonder if they just don't have one? I mean, everyone has a taster right? They have a microwave, kettle and air fryer so I'm not dealing with time travellers from the 1300s here...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It would be uncivilised to not have a toaster. Monsters.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can you toast bread in an air fryer?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yes! This is what I do when I want toasts 😬

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago
[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Mine goes in a drawer. I don't have much bench space, so very little gets to stay out.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Maybe they don’t have one. I don’t have a toaster because 1. I don’t eat toasts that often and 2. Can never fully clean a toaster and that’s gross. When I want toasts, I put them in my airfyer.

You could make toasts in a frypan or oven if you couldn’t find the toaster

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

How long does and airfyer take to toast four english muffin halves?
