I'm desperately trying to maintain any iota of goodwill I could offer the man and I can't shake the feeling his perceived "pitfalls of the term 'indigenous'" are little more than a sheer tablecloth flung over his desire to see homogenous assimilation from subjects-of-empire; plain and simple. Every Western Angloid settler has this complex at some level of their psyche; if not in the conscious mind, then subconsciously.
Being forced to see and reckon with the conditions that the other half lives in leads the settler 'leftist' to assume "well if they just gave up their ~~backwards~~ cultures and histories to become unabashedly and entirely 'Amerikan', then they wouldn't be in that situation, and we can get back to the party line of 'class war only, there is no racial problem in Ba Sing Se'". tl;dr the settler 'leftist' doesn't want to liberate, they want to assimilate the same way the settler reactionaries do. The settler 'leftists'-- X's 'smiling foxes'-- just think their iteration of Amerika is the better option to assimilate into.
This is the crux of why I'm as standoffish, ready to disassociate, and ready to disfellowship the settler 'leftist' in every avenue I meet him in-- because you'll think you know a guy, you'll think a settler's actually on the level for once, and that's when they drop the mask and show the plantation overseer underneath.
