No Stupid Questions

There is an extension/add-on for Firefox called Video Download Helper that lets users download embedded videos from all sorts of websites. While it works as a simple Firefox add-on sometimes, for a remarkable portion of sites (e.g. on Vimeo) it says that it cannot do so as installed and states that the user has to install the companion app to their computer. Does anyone know if this is safe or is installing it placing myself in any risk? If you suggest against installing the companion app, do you have any other recommendations on how to download videos embedded videos from websites?

Your personal FB Profile has some Friends and Followers. Then that same personal Profile of yours is a member of a certain Group Chat (not Group), but the Friends and Followers are not members of that Group Chat.

So if you use the Share function of FB and share a post, a reel, a pic (from the FB platform itself) to that Group Chat, would your Friends and Followers know that in fact you shared something to that Group Chat, or even just a general something, like say "John Doe has shared this <reel> to a Group Chat". Would such appear on their feed, notification, or somewhere else in FB?

I'm thinking of creating a separate Page, and then use that Page to share stuff (from the FB platform itself) to a Group Chat, to maintain my privacy from my Friends and Followers regarding that Group Chat. But I don't know if a Page is even allowed to join a Group Chat. Again "Group Chat" and not "Group", which are not the same. If this is allowed, please let me know too.

edit: thanks for the replies! sorry, i literally don't know the reason since i'm not a western lol. twitter/x is too biased especially when musk openly supports trump so i came here and seeing fediverse is mostly are harris or biden (when he's still up for the candidate) supporters. don't know about reddit tho, i only use reddit as a forum for linux and programming stuff.

Uber has never once turned a profit, and is allowed to continue running their business. If you're a small business owner running an ebay or ecom business, and you claim losses for 3 out of 5 years in a row, it's likely that the IRS will audit you, and could deem you a hobby. Amazon is often cited as not generating a profit for many years, but is now profitable. For them, it was somehow okay to run a business making no profit! So like, how come small businesses can't claim losses, but big corps can?

I have given up trying to find a girlfriend. Even though, I am outgoing, have hobbies (I dance, which is actually filled with women), go to parties, talk to plenty of women. But I keep hearing the same thing over and over again: "I am just not so into skinny guys."

I think this is fair from the woman's perspective. I for one am only motivated to date attractive women. So, them not wanting to settle for less actually makes very good sense to me. There is absolutely no hate or bitterness regarding that. Fuck all that: 'all women are whores'-noise.

That being said, I think I should just consider myself celibate by virtue of my own standards. But now bitterness is starting to take hold of me. Bitterness about my life and to me as a person. As I said I am very outgoing and don't want to become the cynical asshole around my friends.

So how do I stop this?

German nurse here who doesn't want to work at the bedside. Continuing education's called Weiterbildung here and lasts up to 1 year instead of the regular 3 required for a regular Ausbildung (Apprenticeship).

What most Germans do afaik: they find a company or institution that pays for this continuing education (Weiterbildung), so they learn both practice and theory at the same time and are officially hired after they've finished it. This is what I'm trying to do.

Plan B would be to do this Weiterbildung myself: I'd ask for financial assistance from the federal government, which in my case would cover 50% of my education expenses and reduce the hours I work for my hospital to 8 hours per week not to be fired, but there would be no guarantee that I'm hired after I finish the Weiterbildung to leave the bedside.

As much as I hate working with patients, I like the hospital, 'cause I don't have to commute much.

More specifically, I'm thinking about forkgram, a telegram fork. I get that open source app make their code public therefore people can use it and build from it, but I thought it allowed for creating a separate app. Forkgram however still has all my chats so it must be able to connect to telegram servers and both apps must be somehow intertwined. Since telegram is only partly open sourced, I don't understand how this is possible and why telegram would allow this?

Following up on another question about open source funding, how does it usually work when there is funding to pay for the dev's work, then someone new joins in and makes significant contributions? Does the original dev still keep everything? Do you split the funds between the devs? If so, how do you decide how much each person gets? Are there examples of projects where something like this has happened?

Instead of just searching the specific name of a sub what if I want to see every sub that's contained within an instance such as lemmy.world for example no I'm not part of lemmy.world but as part of the instance I'm a part of I can see every sub under it in a neat list can you only do that if you're part of the instance?

The idea is that if the coin flip goes in the player's favor, they win double their bet. After winning, they can either collect their winnings, or risk them all on another coin flip to have a chance at doubling them. The initial bet is fixed at, let's say $1.

Mathematically, this seems like a fair game. The expected value of each individual round is zero for both house and player.

Hello. For context, I am in a university. I do not have any friends, and it feels like colleagues talk bad about me. This makes me quite hesitant to join any circles or attend seminars. I am not sure it is everyone who thinks bad about me though, I fear about asking. Yet I plan to do research, so I should attend seminars to learn current trends and stuffs. May I ask what I should do in such a situation? Are friends necessary, or not really? Also should I stop being in this environment and get a job instead? It feels like Harris has to run a damn near flawless campaign just to BARELY beat this guy. Yeah you can bring up the current state of the country, but Trump mishandled COVID, there were over 200k deaths, BLM protest and was 2x impeached. And yet, Joe Biden BARELY beat him.

Trump is a convicted felon, liable sexual predator, caused an insurrection on the Capitol Hill, tried to steal the 2020 election (find me 11,000 votes), constantly kisses Russia’s ass, has more pending court cases and gets sentenced next month and overall has been the main driving factor in America’s division.

Yet, this race is STILL either 50/50 or a slight tilt (Harris leads the polling aggregate right now). Harris gets destroyed by the corporate media for almost anything, yet Trump is still lying and saying the most outlandish shit and nobody cares.

Why does it feel standards are much higher for Harris than Trump?
