That's what I'm thinking about but I think that OpenSUSE or Fedora might be too much bloated. Someone recommended AlmaLinux and I think that might be a great solution.

What? I'm looking for minimal setup but for desktop use (by this I mean machine which I'll be using as my workstation), not for a server. I don't think that Proxmox will be minimal option for this purpose when it have features which I don't need at all because the software on it is primarily designed for remotely controlled servers. For example I don't need WebUI function, instead I need simple desktop environment to manage my machines directly from a machine. Of course I can install desktop environment on it but why when it have completely different use case?

I heard that Proxmox is great server solution but how about desktop?

I love virtualization in Linux and I would like to have operating system which will work only as minimal, air-gapped as much is possible host for my guest operating systems. Qubes OS project really interested me but it's based on Xen hypervisor so it might cause troubles with GPU Passthrough which is really important for me also I'm more interested in KVM. In my case it's not only about security and privacy but also about fun and learning. What can you recommend? I think that good choice might be Gentoo Linux because it allows for minimal installation and remove unnecessary software like CUPS, Bluetooth entirely with flags which will be great option for host only OS. But I had experience with Gentoo and it's not easiest way 😅 Debian might be easier option but I will have less control over my system. Maybe you have other interesting options?

What can I do? It's really annoying if you have a lot of apps and you have to confirm every installation manually... I'm using the newest LineageOS

Hi. I'm using unofficial rom of the newest LineageOS for my Xiaomi Redmi Note 12S. I know it's not that secure to use unofficial rom as using official one because it might have malware but I think that I trust guy behind a rom and I even donated him for his hard work. Official firmware for Xiaomi is terrible and had a lot of spyware, I couldn't sleep with awareness of this.

For right now I'm planning to make my phone more private and secure. I heard that SIM Card is really big privacy issue and it can take control over device. I'm planning to don't using SIM Card on my main device and instead put in my old IPhone 7, then I will share internet from it or make calls if I will have to. I don't trust Apple too much but I think that their system is much better hardened than android when it comes to stuff like that. I don't planning to put any important stuff on IPhone, expect for proprietary software like banking apps etc. I think that ICloud account is huge privacy issue but I think that solution is better than what I have right now. So I'll have FOSS software only on my main Xiaomi Phone.

Then maybe I should root my LineageOS to harden it? It will give more control over my device and I could control it network traffic by firewall, add additional encryption if it's possible etc. What solutions can you recommend? Also I heard that opened bootloader is security issue but to be honest if I was able to do this by exploit avoiding doing this by manufacturer way I think that cops or hackers can do the same if they I will get my phone.

What can I do also for more privacy and security? I think that I should use work profile and private space which are great solutions. Also I can make some faraday cage which will also dull a sounds from environment, avoid holding sensitive data on my phone and have different accounts for messengers.

What do you think about this? How are you using your phone and what can you recommend for privacy?

Hi, I'm interested about crypto for quite long time but I have never a chance to obtain my own crypto. Before I obtained my first larger amount of crypto I bought Ledger Nano S Plus few months ago and I think that I regret my decision because I don't think that I'm planning to hold my crypto on it anymore. Reason is Ledger Recover subscription option in Ledger Live which allow Ledger to hold your secret passphrase for more 'security'. Obviously is direly dangerous backdoor allowing Ledger to take control over your crypto assets through their software. We never don't know what's hiding behind binaries from their website and even if it's open-source I don't think that I'm able to compile it easily on my own which should be default way for installing such software. Also if it's open software why we don't have any forks of Ledger Live without this shit and it's not available in any Linux repositories or for mobile version on something else than Google Play? I don't want to make my funds or device dependent on any company, this is not why I'm buying crypto.

My current plan for holding crypto is using Tails with my wallet information on papers in safety place. If I'm using Ledger I also need to keep my secret passphrase so it's don't changing anything in terms of security expect for fact that some company will not be able to steal my money.

For people who don't care about their freedom and focus on trading/spending crypto it still might be good choice, definitely better than hot wallet or cold wallet on mobile phone.

I love that feature too! But I think it's really dangerous in the current implementation when you can't be sure what data they're taking from your computer.

Today I deleted my Discord account, I was using it in Firefox or Webcord wrapper. I can't imagine installing this type of software on my computer. It's scanning your computer by default to check what programs are you using or what games are you playing and it's properiaty, commercial app.

You never know how the data they collect about you will be used. It's a great tool for censorship, and Discord has good communication with the authorities. Despite this, they still have no problem with violence in the form of groups encouraging teenagers to self-harm, Nazis, and gore or pornographic content of a pedophilic or zoophilic nature. Unfortunately, as a minor, I came across a lot of this type of content there completely by accident. A large, centralized, unencrypted messenger allows for accurate tracking or complete destruction of a user's history. This is important for political oppression, falsification, and evidence gathering.

Most people are too lazy to change anything in their lives, even their messenger, out of concern for their privacy and security. And there are alternatives, but they won't even be able to emerge because of this majority. It's not that all these messengers are free and we all pay dearly for them, but not with our own money. Money is not as valuable as power and the right to one's identity.

If Matrix had as much money as Discord (where there are much better freedom-oriented alternatives to Discord), it would probably allow for the same simplicity as Discord. Unfortunately, ethical activity plays a secondary role for us. It's the same with clothing—it's easier to get clothes that are cheaply made in poor countries by exploiting children than clothes that are made locally with respect for workers' rights.

I am not providing alternatives, because if someone does not understand this and is too lazy to look for them themselves, they should not clutter up spaces where valuable people gather.

Please don't install this shit on your computer

There's Matrix, XMPP, Delta Chat and IRC. IRC is oldschool and popular, you have channels like on Discord but you can only send text. If you want we can message together or create some group chat. I also looking for people to chat outside Discord. My matrix is @ml0dy:noevil.pl, XMPP mlody@hakier.pl and IRC #zimno on Libera Chat.

Yes, but I heard bad opions about it in the past, don't remember where. Are you using it?

In the past when I had Windows I was making beats in FL Studio and sometimes mix in Reaper. I didn't have advanced skills but I knew how to use these tools. For right now I'm Linux Mint user and I'm looking for something open-source. I think that good choice for me will be some kind of tracker because I want to sample. What you use and can you recommend? I also need good learning resources for this tool, because as I said I'm amateur.
