It's truly astonishing how the biggest takeaway from COVID rocking the US was that we just don't do public health as a concept anymore
We're reaching levels of liberal condescension that shouldn't even be possible
What's really depressing is that this cartoonist is Black. Based on the other examples in this article, seems like most of his body of work is unbelievably cringe
Do what I do and dunk on them by wearing this out in public
In college I worked for a few months at a little coffee shop in a mall and it had two cameras: one in the main area and one in the back storage room. They went to a feed that the owner would watch from his house and if he saw me sitting down or doing something else objectionable, he'd call the store and chew me out. I was eventually fired when they had a re-training for all three of us employees and I didn't smile enough during it, according to the manager
Anyway, all coffee shops need to be unionized or worker co-ops; death to coffee shop management
The new Sino-Soviet split
A friend of mine always says "I'm an ML now so I can be an anarchist one day in the future"
Incredible book and should be essential reading. It's not a biography, as I heard it described a few years ago, but an unrelentingly thorough historical analysis of Joseph Stalin, his role in the USSR, and the various criticisms of him that have entered common discourse to the point where people who don't know anything about history know that "Hitler and Stalin" are history's greatest monsters. Losurdo looks at how this came to be and deconstructs anti-communist narratives using sources that even the most ardent anti-communist can't deny are valid (capitalist historians, Stalin's enemies, etc). It's an incredible piece of scholarship that, by the end, demonstrates just how deeply our understanding of historical events and figures have been shaped by the specific ideology of capitalist power
