Bill Burr is probably the only person I know of who didn't completely change once he got rich and famous, he's a national treasure at this point

Zebras are scary AF man. They will bite you and are very food aggressive. I went through one of these petting drive through zoos years ago, they have signs posted that say not to feed the zebras.... After feeding cows, bulls, horses, ostriches(which were scariest) I forgot to be cautious with the zebra. I tried to feed one and it bit down on my hand extremely hard. All the other animals were super chill and they grab the food with their lips/tongue but zebras seem to not be able to restrain themselves. They're crazy

I came across this early in my career in networking. I ended up having to support another technicians customer(we primarily managed our own workloads) and he did not use the tools(vault) we had to manage the network equipment credentials, so I always had to call him and ask him what the password is and why he doesn't update it in the vault(it frequently changed) ... After bothering him enough about it he said it was job security.

This was a 45k entry level job that he was years into. Why someone would want job security at the bottom part of the totem pole is beyond me, but that is where I mostly came across tribalistic tendencies(I worked in a lot of small/medium sized companies before getting a big break)

If I look up those people on LinkedIn, they're exactly where they were or in another lateral position. They don't tend to make it very far.

LOL, those are reserved for important people when they come in. They're not for the people that work in the building.

Last place I worked had a ping pong table that never got used by the people that worked there, as well as an Xbox I never saw on

Probably because routine mandatory tests are bad, and the comment you replied to is an endorsement to it. It's a gross violation of your constitutional rights under the 4th amendment. Also, why do you care to make assumptions on why people downvoted if you're not even making an effort to broaden your views?

Basically PH and other xxx sites need you to verify your identity by uploading your ID. It's what should be unconstitutional and a violation of privacy.

Rise against was kind of my introduction to protest rock before I got into my long term love interest prog rock. As a young adult it was powerful to hear songs talk about socioeconomic issues so openly. I still enjoy listening to them and while growing up they inspired me to be a part of activist efforts, especially after learning/reading about Aaron Swartz. I wish the world felt like something that could be changed, but instead it feels like something that changes you. Best you can do is offer a helping hand and be there for those you care about and occasionally offer a helping hand to strangers when you're able to.

Sometimes I listen to them while ironically working for a megacorporation

Man I feel like even the worst movies back then were better than now. Even most blockbuster hits are a dud for me now. RIP

There's a silver lining of good intentions here... Immigration court is different from state to state. Texas only approves 35% of asylum seekers. Meaning if you're an illegal in Texas wanting a pathway to legal residency, you're not likely to get it there. Meanwhile, in blue states such as in NY, it's 69% or higher. I would say majority of asylum seekers are seeking asylum for legitimate reasons. My wife tells stories that are very common to her family and other people from Honduras... The drug cartels rule with impunity, they have had family kidnapped for ransom, seeing people killed by gun violence is very normal, etc.

Anyways, typically, when USCIS finishes your intake, you have to be released to the custody of a friend or relative who accepts responsibility for you and you are given to their custody in their state of residence. You can't just ask to be taken to a liberal state, you have to have family there. Republicans are being cute in how they're dealing with immigration, but for the immigrants themselves, it's a favorable outcome.

It's dry humor. Have you ever seen Borat or Ali G? Same genre

I know I am just a random nobody to you, but I'm not satisfied with this response. If you have exhausted all options, then you need to be working on updating your resume. Your boss might not have enough juice to push this through for you, and in that case, it's probably better that you find a new job. I don't think you've exhausted all options, I think you came face to face with the reality of the corporate workforce, the reality is that most people are trying to get by with "good enough." They are afraid of the implications of you outworking them and making them look worthless, or you automating something so much that it cuts the departmental budget. If what you're saying is true, and you can reduce hundreds of man hours, then you should fight for your ideas. Know that fighting for your ideas doesn't mean that you will be praised from day one. People will poke and prod, criticize, kick the tires, make excuses, etc. Stand by your work and always come back to the table.

"Okay, I heard your proposal on how to validate data integrity in the event that we become a multi-vendor environment. I understand that parsing/wrangling data can be challenging. However, in the event that our environment adopts XYZ infrastructure, I am using tried and tested industry standard modeled languages. All major vendors support this language model, so it would not require a complete re-engineering.

life is too short to work for shitty bosses man. But don't spend time feeling sorry for yourself.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

That's built into the model. Stars carry the weight because they've shouldered the responsibility. Others will step up... The work will be subpar, but when companies do risk analysis on stuff like this, they know how much gas they can burn before needing to be competitive again. Just another reason why we need unions in the US.
