Sure, but it compresses the shit out of pictures and videos. For text it's fine, but media sharing is terrible without RCS, iMessage, or a 3rd party app.

Jesus, I'm not even done my Sophomore year of college and I can already tell that's terrible. Not even HTTPS?!?
I'd imagine it would be like it is on Android- you have a setting that's off by default, and it needs turned on before you can sideload. It would more likely be under the parental controls of the device than the account settings.
It's going to be a very similar experience. Two things I noticed were that Apple Music has a much better shuffle algorithm, and it's much easier to import music into Apple Music, but they're very similar experiences.
