Lemmy itself is fine, people are more worried about the lemmy.ml moderation practices since it's one of the bigger instances.
It's just another UI basically. I like Kbin a lot more than Lemmy aesthetically and it was easier to get used coming directly from Reddit. Also early on there was only one instance (there's like 3-5 now? I'm on Kbin.run) so it was a lot easier for people who didn't understand how it works to use.

Here's a list I used to find kbin.run, it's a little barebones right now but the UI is really familiar as someone who used Reddit a lot. It is mostly centralized to kbin.social right now, as more instances pop up and the main instance fixes federation it should sort itself out as long as it keeps momentum.
