Starmer's really ballsed this up hasn't he. First unambiguous unforced error (some might say letting Elphicke into the party was an error but it's clear what the logic was there).
Green policies really don't make sense. You have Green councillors opposing wind farms.
Used electrics are good value now. I have an electric car which I lease, and so far the depreciation on the car has outstripped the cost of the lease by a factor of 2, meaning I will definitely be "up" vs having bought it outright. I'll definitely buy a used electric once the lease expires.
There's no way the cost of new electrics won't come down, economic gravity will force it.
Thanks, that at least makes some sense!
my actual biggest wish, which I will never get because the administrative costs would be astronomical, is that the cost added to goods be directly tied to their recyclability (both in materials and labor) as it would incentivize building more easily recycled products by manufacturers to keep costs competitive.
Interesting point. I guess the price of the individual product won't be differentiated based on cost of recycling, but there will still be an incentive for retailers and therefore manufacturers to make products last longer, which might be better in the long run?
Same with ours. Tried to explain British Summer Time to her but it fell on deaf ears.
Thanks for this. Going into this group I'd have said this was our toughest match, but watching it it felt like too much of a grind. Need that bit of perspective sometimes.
I don't want an "exciting" keeper 😬
It's also a deeply unprincipled argument. If you support PR on principle then you should support it even if it means Tory governments for the rest of time. If you only support it because it means "your side" gets in power more often then that's no different from Starmer supporting FPTP because it means "his side" gets into power more often.
that's actually really good - thanks!
Ever since the CS1.6 days I wanted to have a server, but it was only when I got a free Raspberry Pi that I actually started self hosting stuff 24/7. I put OwnCloud on it and a bunch of scripts to track and statistically evaluate my investments, and just took off from there. Like many others, my desire to disconnect and reduce my dependency on "Big Tech" was a big motivator, but so too was "fun" and having things exactly the way I liked.
In the beginning I rolled my own scripts most of the time, but now I tend to use more off the shelf tools as self hosting has gone more and more "mainstream"/accessible and docker has become ubiquitous.
I still do my own scripts tbf, like my DIY smart thermostat/heat pump controller. Ultimately it's just a lot of fun.

Shoreditch is more East by North East I'd say.
