Anyone tried this? Works perfectly for me. Any reason why I should go back to the OpenBoard fork with Swipe?

Not only does it not have swipe typing, it doesn't have suggestions either.

There's only swipe delete and cursor movement.

Does it actually have swipe typing? I just downloaded to check and it doesn't seem like it does.

Jeez, I tried it before and just tried again now and I can not find the swipe to text option. I think I'm either blind or stupid. I hope I'm not both

Long press the comma will bring up the settings button. Then it is on the main page of the settings.

Dude !! You made a video in order to help me ?! Thank you so much.

I don't have the option for gesture typing though. I have this version installed:

That's bizarre. That's the same version I have. The only thing I can think of is that your system language isn't English and maybe it removes that option. ¯_ (ツ) _/¯ If that is the case it's unfortunate that it doesn't work for different languages.

You could try switching the system language to verify that that is what is happening. I have no idea what kind of effort it takes to add that feature for other languages but you could always ask the Dev.

Uninstall and reinstall did the trick 🤔

Thanks for helping :)

Oh, that's awesome!

Maybe it doesn't work for French? Or just the gui option isn't exposed for French, idk... Try switching Android language to English, see what happens.

Are you sure you have the fork with gesture typing support? They're both called OpenBoard with no external distinction.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That's the version I have installed:

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

that's actually really good - thanks!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Florisboard also has gesture typing, however i rarely use it. I find i make a lot more mistakes than i did swipe typing with gboard

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It doesn't have suggestions tho, so swipe is kinda useless if you don't get the right word.

And the rebooted version has been in alpha development for so long, it's essentially dead.

Hey fellow Lemmy ... Thx a lot for this tip!

Was messing around with floris today, which is nice ... But funding this fork is great - missed swiping more than expected

Unfortunately the development seems stale

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I like openboard because of the similarities to gboard and this fits the bill well. However I do agree that this fork doesn't seem active. But I have a feeling that perhaps it was just a personal project to add swipe to openboard.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Google Play page says it doesn't and probably never will.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I'll try it again when it has suggestions.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

ive tried bunch of android keyboards, and havent found anything i like more than florisboard, although sadly its development has been stalled for a while. this one is a bit too raw yet imo

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No spellcheck, no swipe but works for me. Been using this for a long time.. Minimal app at best

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wait, it does hace swipe. I'm using it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

oh I meant swipe to type, by the way I like the swipe to delete option, it's so convenient.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wish someone would make one with those two finger swipes feature.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The one I'm talking about used to let you complete a word using swipes from two finger simultaneously.

Think it was called nintype or keyboard 69.

Any keyboard with a clipboard manager? Eg last 10 items copied.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Florisboard

I have been using Simple Keyboard for more than a year now and I'm a big fan of it, no annoying auto corrections or spooky telemetry, and the swipe to move the cursor or delete it's really amazing.
