It's a quote by Martov (Menshevik) as he was speaking up against the Cadets and the way they were handling the war.

“You call us defeatists; but the real defeatists are those who wait for a more propitious moment to conclude peace, insist upon postponing peace until later, until nothing is left of the Russian army, until Russia becomes the subject of bargaining between the different imperialist groups. You are trying to impose upon the Russian people a policy dictated by the interests of the bourgeoisie. The question of peace should be raised without delay. You will see then that not in vain has been the work of those whom you call German agents, of those Zimmerwaldists who in all the lands have prepared the awakening of the conscience of the democratic masses.”

As Russia was losing territory to the German army in the first world war, it seems like there was a side that wanted the war to last as long as possible, no matter the cost, and Markov was against it.

This kind of reminds me of the current war in Ukraine. The people opposed to the war and that wanted a peace deal to be made, were called German agents, right now we are called Russian agents.

Also, as Martov was saying, what will more fighting achieve? The country would just be left without an army, destroyed, and completely defenseless against the foreign powers and this is being done just because the rich are benefitting from it momentarily as of now.
Anyone that supports the people of Ukraine right now should be on the side of peace as soon as possible, I can't possibly see how their people could benefit from more death and destruction, and it seems like they were having the same debates in Russia during WWI.

Honestly, it seems like a great book as of now, if you haven't read it, I suggest it to anyone that is interested in the history of the Russian revolution.

The first image from 1930 and the last one have the palace of the soviets in it. So sad that they never actually built it.

Extracts:

China's consumption market has witnessed a sustained recovery. Retail sales, a major indicator of consumption strength, expanded 3.4 percent year-on-year in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Online sales remained a bright spot, expanding 9.6 percent year-on-year during the first eight months of the year.

China's consumer market is picking up steam during the extended eight-day holiday, showcasing immense potential and strong resilience, said Pan Helin, a member of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's Expert Committee for Information and Communication Economy.

A series of pro-consumption policies have played a vital role in stimulating shoppers' purchasing appetites, shoring up domestic demand and spurring economic growth amid external uncertainties, Pan said, estimating that the country's consumption growth will gather pace in the fourth quarter of this year.

Why isn't china collapsing !? Simple, it has to be because their people are not free and the communist party decides that the economy can't collapse.

Also it's economy has market but it's not commercial ? And that means it can't crash ? But also other countries shouldn't implement this because its totalitarian/USSR/it's gonna fail ?

I guess the takeaway from all of this is that I would like for once to hear someone say something cool. Like that they want to be a surf instructor, open a bakery or whatever.

...And I mean everyone! Like, you talk to people, some of whom are renting right now, the rest of them are staying in apartments left behind by family members instead, and their ultimate goal in life is always "save up some money, buy a house/apartment, rent in on airbnb, quit working".

At this point, I don't even know how many people have told me this is their life plan. Every one of those people either rents or knows so many people who rent. Everyone who lives in a rented apartment every year starts complaining about how rent prices are out of control and nobody can afford it. Like:

1- How can anyone think its a stable market that won't crash in the future and allow you to retire like 20-30 years. Like, if everyone is saying that renting is way too expensive, I just think at some point people are going to leave the city because they can't afford it.

2- Or that it's an ethical sector of the economy that it's okay to profit from. You see yourself being squeezed and all you can think about is how much you want to be the squeezer (is that even a word?).

3- That wanting to be a landlord is something to be proud of and something to be very open about. Like, "Yes, I want to be a leech, I want to make other people suffer while I prosper from their work.

I understand that they are just part of an oppressive system and they don't see any other way out of it, but it is so boring and annoying to hear the 40th person tell you how they are going to buy an apartment in the center of town and rent it out to tourists.

Also I will forever remember this guy that was telling me his plan to buy an apartment and rent it like it was the smartest think anybody ever said. You could see the shine in his eyes as he was trying to phrase himself to explain me this simple trick to life, buying an apartment but instead of living in it, you rent it. He went on and on about how smart this trick was and he was going to retire in his 30s. He is not from a rich family so I have no idea how he was going to afford all that.

I just played the demo for Monster Train 2 for the first time (yeah, I'm kind of late, the demo's been out for a while) and I have to say that i like what i see !
(I added "almost" in the title because the full game is not out yet. It's coming out on May 21)

I played the first game quite a bit and i had a lot of fun with it.
What's the popular opinion about Monster Train on Hexbear ? How many people actually played it ?

@DankZedong@lemmygrad.ml doesn't know they are already in a communist country !

Jokes aside, in Brussels there are so many homeless people (I think the most I've seen in an European capital) and, outside of the city center, I've found so many trash bags on the streets. Have they not invented bins here yet ?

Talking about nice things, there are so many red brick building, that's cool, I like them.

Quoting the article:

“No American should face homelessness, and the Biden-Harris Administration is committed to ensuring every family has access to the affordable, safe, and quality housing they deserve,” HUD Agency Head Adrianne Todman said in a statement, adding that the focus should remain on “evidence-based efforts to prevent and end homelessness.”

Have they forgotten that the Biden-Harris Administration was (and still is), the one in charge ?
How does such an increase in homelessness show the commitment they said they have on fixing this issue ? It obviusly shows the opposite, that they don't care about it.

Is this really where journalism is at !?

The illegal dissolution of u/bureaucrat is one of modern Humanity's greatest tragedies, promises from older generations unfulfilled.

Its dissolution and the subsequent collapse of the communal account bloc was one of the worst things to happen in these last few centuries, there's nothing left behind but a rotting corpse of what was once a beacon of hope for a better world.
I try to stay positive when thinking about the future, but at the same time I know things most likely aren't going to improve in my lifetime.

But one day, in the future after Imperialism has been defeated and Capitalism blotched out, I hope future generations will look back upon ours as the generation that learned from our predecessors and moved forward.

To all bureacrats, keep building the path towards a better world so the people that come after you can enjoy that world. We will win eventually, it's inevitable.

This song was not yet posted on this sub ? Why ? We all know it's the best Miku song of all time (I might not be joking) !

Also the live choreography is very fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6VhAvtekeU I love it.

Such an interesting song, and it's even in English (other than the last phrase) !

So, they says they want change but, when presented with the possibility of supporting communism, they instead decide to become fascist to support the status quo.

Historically checks out.

I might not be good at agitprop.

Every time that someone implies that Palestinians should have been sacrificed for the country, I just call them fascist.

It is after all what they are but I'm not sure if that convinces people to try something different.

Yes, i think there is a panel where it tells you that some worker for a 3 room apartment pays 10% of their salary. Then they show you a standard 3 room apartment and while going through it I was so surprised because I would never be able to afford anything even close to it.

But all the museum is about how people where oppressed and poor !?

My favorite has to be this one comment :

far left: works in theory, but has never worked in practice. far right: has worked for as long as empires have existed.

I'm not even sure I 100% understand what they are trying to say since the empires he is probably talking about don't exist anymore (unless he is aware of the US one).
