If not for Rudeus' monstruous mana pool they would be all dead. He kept a water wall against three heads dragonbreathing the group.

...hard to talk about this episode without giving spoilers on what comes next. (The LN equivalent is vol12 ch9, by the way.) The fight was exciting, and it ended in such a sorrowful note (Paul is dead, Rudeus lost an arm, there's something wrong with Zenith). A rollercoaster of emotions, really - and it shows how much Rudeus evolved, from the distance towards his Earth parents to the concern about his new ones.

That's mostly for show. The impact of their recent measures on the population pirating stuff is next to zero, and that even if they jail someone you'll get 10 new streamers on their place.

It was the same thing with the alleged seizure of people streaming for TV boxes. (Mine still works fine, by the way.)

Damn, it has been so long since I watched the original series... I forgot how heartwarming it was.

I like the idea of telling how Lawrence met Holo through a story within the story. (Also, if you're a fan of the series, you probably noticed right off the bat whom Holo was telling that story to.) And, overall, the first episode left me pleased - it was just the right amount of detail for me, while focusing on their relationship.

The ending left me a bit dissatisfied to be honest. Okay, they tied the stooge couple (prince x Alicia), killed the demon lord, had Alicia backstab Yumiella (instead of the two stooges)... but what about Eleonora?

Small cute detail: Ryuu following Patrick's orders. It shows how much time Patrick and Yumiella spent together, to the point that her dragon-sized puppy trusts him.

I'm also hoping for a sequel. The following arcs are cool, and the animation got a great momentum, it would be a shame if they let it drop.

Just like Yumiella sucks at making people like her, she also sucks at making people hate her. It's hilarious how attached Eleonora became, like a blond puppy wagging her tail at the dark magic eldritch abomination. (If the ending didn't spoil you guys enough: Eleonora is a fool. A lovable and loving fool.)

It might be a cliche, a character archetype, a trope, a setting, a theme, anything. Which are the ones that make you enjoy the work more? Which are the ones that you hate to see? And which are the ones who you'd be fine with, if not so overused?

[-] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

As soon as they mentioned "raiding a dungeon", the first thing that came to my mind was Frieren stuck in a mimic. And of course that happened.

...is there any replica of a mimic nearby? That could solve the problem for Denken and his group.

The manga series is a 0.799998 for me. Or a 8/10 without the floating point error.

It's a lot like Log Horizon, that you get multiple people trapped inside a game world, and wanting to get out, interacting with the NPCs and all that stuff. Except that it's the sort of trashy game that Sunraku (Shangri-La Frontier) would play, so things get considerably weirder. With a protagonist that didn't give up QA-ing the game.

By the tone of the news, it seems that they're delaying the anime series to avoid rushing it and leaving it half-baked. If that's correct it's rather sensible - it's better to delay it than to release some crap.

I think that the main boundary is between deciding what you like versus what others should like.

The former is fine; even if someone like "ahneemay" because it's trendy, or avoids fanservice or because the person got tired of [whatever they're watching in USA nowadays, I seriously do not know] and wants something different.

The later however is not. It's just someone being entitled, and expecting people to appease their personal tastes. It doesn't make them just a shitty anime fan, it also makes them a shitty person, unable to deal with the fact that the world does not revolve around their belly button.

Just my two cents.

Frieren and Fern are the only magical girls that I care about.

Damn, I'm glad that I've read the relevant manga chapter a long time ago. I forgot about this arc and all its little wonders: screwing with the water so the Stille won't get near it, the battle junkie in Fern's party, and how amazing of a mage Fern has become. Why use more advanced spells, if the simpler ones are more reliable?

[-] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

Frieren giving Fern a different answer from the one that she gave Himmel is one of those small things that make me love this series. It shows how much of an impact those ten years travelling with him (plus Heiter and Eisen) had on her.

It shows how much our lives aren't really shaped by the years that we spend doing nothing, like she did in the forest for, like, 500 years? No, what matters are the small moments.
