He was rejected for PR though.

Why should a criminal record bar entry from Canada anyway? Obviously Epstein was not held accountable for his crimes at the time, but if somebody does their time I don't see why we should punish them further.

Bentham's Bulldog makes the argument that not only does harvesting their honey cause major suffering to bees, it's actually the least ethical thing to consume in existence. https://benthams.substack.com/p/dont-eat-honey

I'm unsure about it either way, but it's worth reading the argument IMO.

Didn't realize the book ban had been reversed (save for graphic novels). Why doesn't that kind of news make it to Lemmy?

Cut away the fluff of the article, and what they're actually saying is: interact with your community and help out your friends more. I think this is good advice for women too, it would probably be good for me.

None of these are good arguments against introducing a ban. Worst argument of all is that "we shouldn't ban it for 15 year olds because that wouldn't protect 16 year olds." Seriously? Is that intentional rage bait?

I think it's more than clear by now that algorithmic feeds are hazardous, at least without significant effort in research and safeguards which nobody seems to be doing. So yeah, I'd say: definitely ban algorithmic feeds for teenagers. Hell, ban them for everyone if you must.

Gating should be done either by ZKP (zero-knowledge proofs, which don't expose any information to any party other than "I'm at least x years old" -- look this up if this is a new concept to you) or device-side by standardizing and streamlining child safety locks.

Well, given the sanctions, this ought to be a given. I don't understand how valve can operate in Russia at all tbh.

'This isn't "wokeness", it's basic human rights and equality and nothing more,' he added. 'If Steam can't support free speech of LGBTQ+ people, then at the very least they should be transparent about this.'

What a bizarre response. Neither Roskomnadzor nor Valve claimed this had anything to do with "'wokeness,'" and Steam was in fact transparent about this.

I don't really get what anyone expects Valve to do here other than comply with the law. Still, I'm surprised they're even able to operate in Russia given all the sanctions.

Valve moved into hardware long after its other ventures, so it's not surprising the hardware devs make less -- they're newer. Still, $430k/yr is an enviable salary...
