πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ in the screenshot you can see this shaking head emoji, as it is displayed in my terminal, it seems to not recognize the (newer) emoji made up of 2 unicode parts.

πŸ™‚β€+ ↔️ = πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ

Do I need to update the emoji, font, where do I get one? Is there a configuration option in terminals, like xfce-terminal, for this?

Other "bugs" include:

  • the oil-barrel emoji is way to big for some reason.
  • some emoji are colored, while some have only one color

What is your experience with emojis in linux terminals, equally inconsistent to mine?

For the past few weeks, when I was updating my website, the tor browser reported that my onion address is not available.

Turns out, the systemd service that I use to run the onion service broke in between the migration. I still have no idea why. But I noticed that the Apparmor service is also failed to run.

It’s like a dark forest that seems eerily devoid of human life – all the living creatures are hidden beneath the ground or up in trees. If they reveal themselves, they risk being attacked by automated predators.

That dark forest is about to expand . Large Language Models (LLMs) that can instantly generate coherent swaths of human-like text have just joined the party.

You will be unable to search anything. Besides wikipedia I like the hypothesis "Good sites need to hide to not get spammed by bad actors" a lot.

Rosetta Code is a programming chrestomathy site. The idea is to present solutions to the same task in as many different languages as possible, to demonstrate how languages are similar and different, and to aid a person with a grounding in one approach to a problem in learning another. Rosetta Code currently has 1,339 tasks, 397 draft tasks, and is aware of 984 languages, though we do not (and cannot) have solutions to every task in every language.

While browsing the web I look at the resources webpages want to load.

Sometimes (not that rare) they attempt to load scripts and resources from google owned domains:

  • google fonts
  • storage.googleapis.com
  • ajax.googleapis.com
  • gstatic (I assume this is also some google shit)
  • youtube (obviously)

Are you more distrustful of such sites, do you block their resource loading attempts? What are other google services/domains like this, often embedded into 3rd party websites?

I use decentraleyes and block js from loading using no scripts, I use a few other extensions two but those are the main ones

Missouri is the third American state to take up mid-decade redistricting in an emerging national battle for partisan advantage ahead of 2026 midterm elections.

Segregation line between Black, white residents

Trump is trying to stave off a historic trend in which the president's party typically loses seats in midterm elections.

Republicans currently hold six of Missouri's eight US House seats.

The revised map passed the state House earlier this week as the focal point of a special session called by Kehoe.

Missouri's revised map targets a seat held by Democratic US Representative Emanuel Cleaver by shaving off portions of his Kansas City district and stretching the rest of it into Republican-heavy rural areas.

The plan reduces the number of Black and minority residents in Cleaver's district, partly by creating a dividing line along a street that Cleaver said had been a historical segregation line between Black and white residents.

... But a three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Thursday that the detention centre can remain open while a Trump administration appeal of the shutdown order is being heard.

The majority ruled that the project β€” which has been funded by the state of Florida β€” did not trigger the kind of environmental review needed for federally funded construction projects.

Friends of the Everglades and the Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit arguing that the facility threatens the sensitive Everglades wetlands ecosystem and was hastily built without the legally required environmental impact studies. ...

Recently they switched to a more public court-order based approach.

But my thought on this is as well: Once their domain name servers are configured according to law, can they force us to not use other domain name services?

Yeah after searching on the arch wiki, I guess systemd timers, not services, are specifically what I was interested in, thanks!

After some suggestions to check out inotifywait I ended up with a solution that works for me as desired.

inotifywait --event modify,create ./targetfolder/; echo "new change, that I am interested in, occurred in targetfolder";

It turned out I was interested in both file modification and file creation events.

Thanks for your hint! After some experimentation and man page reading, this was what I was interested in:

inotifywait --event modify,create ./targetfolder/; echo "new change, that I am interested in, occurred in targetfolder";

I was interested in both file modification and file creation events.

Yeah big databases systems on google scale work like this I guess πŸ˜”. Best thing to do is delete that shit and hope for the best I guess.

[-] helloworld@lemmy.ml 16 points 5 months ago

Do you trust them to really delete everything?

Or even anything?

[-] helloworld@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Interesting, I was hoping I could delete the email after I created the account. And I found it in the settings and just deleted my email. I hope the database does not store previous emails, but I guess this is up to the admins.

Can I change the email address associated with my account? I did not find it in the settings?
