i'd say pretty good, i've gotten 6 orders total (all of which being shipped out last week) 🎉

i tried making a couple posts for the posters but they didn't too much traction so i assumed people weren't interested 😅

(in order of being posted)

  1. toast.ooo post url
  2. toast.ooo post url - same post but grants.cafe link
  3. toast.ooo post url

i'll make a post in [email protected] later today most likely, just got back from a well needed vacation lol 🌴

Sorry, I phrased it badly 😅

There's no user table (from the server) but each pixel is tagged with whoever placed the pixel

I've edited my original post so it doesn't confuse more people

I know this is like... 12 hours ago

but since then i've done a massive rewrite of how the canvas caches pixels and it's much faster now :)

pixel overstacking should also be fixed

On the website click on Settings then put an image URL in the field (png preferably as it has transparency, but jpeg does work), then copy the URL of the website

it should add it to the end of the url

it'll be 72 hours (12th @ midnight - 14th @ 11:49pm)

completely forgot to include that in the post

it'll be 500x500 (from 1000x1000 last year)

Having a name for a version would be nice for each major release (1.0.0 would have a name but 1.x.x wouldn’t, but 2.0.0 would, etc)

I ran into this issue when writing the Canvas authentication thing

There is a standard to simplify authentication and identification across the entire web but it isn’t fully implemented everywhere

OAuth2 is the big name in this, it supplies authorized requests to access data from other companies and services

OpenID is related to OAuth2 but it only supplies identification in a standardized way. OpenID has mechanisms to announce that a specific domain has support for this and how to automatically register for it (removing the need to have a bunch of login buttons)

For Canvas 2024 I’m implementing drop in implementations for popular Fediverse software (including Lemmy)

Hopefully more fedi software implements OAuth2 or at least OpenID to vastly simplify authentication (and possibly replace “login with google”)

If the instance requires verified emails the application won’t even show up to staff if it’s not verified

I ran a fork of pxls for this event and they have their own instance at https://pxls.space, and compared to pixelcanvas.io, is moderated (if that's what you're looking for) :)

It's getting closer!

Canvas is happening in a little less than 24 hours! Check time

When the event starts I'll be posting the link in the Matrix Space then in the Lemmy Community

To place pixels on the canvas you'll just need to type in the code the website will PM your Lemmy account. Due to how Lemmy PMs work, they cannot be received by other softwares unfortunately

Get your groups together! You can post pixel projects in this community to recruit others or by adding your room to the subspace in Matrix

Moderation If you are interested in helping moderate the canvas, send me a message on Matrix

Hey all,

I’ve got an exciting thing to announce today, Canvas — Lemmy’s r/Place!

We need to get our own traditions over here in the Threadiverse, why not start off with our own r/Place

This weekend, we will open up a canvas to all Lemmy users, each user will be able to place 1 pixel every minute. This event will last 72 hours, starting midnight EST on the 4th and ending at 11:59pm EST on the 6th

No idea if this is possible, but if someone posts a link to a post using an instance url it would be nice to have it try to open it as a post instead of opening the in-app browser

Two Minecraft related things, Hypixel (a Minecraft network) and Bedwars (a minigame that originated from Minecraft)
