Patents shouldn't be valid for more than 5 years imo. If you can't make a large enough profit from your idea in 5 years maybe it wasn't that good or original.
I bought an AMD card even though NVIDIAs upscaling is much better. With the added raw performance for the same price, I'm not going to need to rely as much on upscaling. It starts making less and less sense the higher your budget goes though.

You can add another revision of nixpkgs as a flake input and use that revision for certain packages. Its not as ergonomic as in Arch (even though they officially dont support partial upgrades). But its still possible and having a stable and unstable flake input usually does the job for me.
