It seems like the videos I’m not too interested in watching thing always work. When I really want to see it, nope.

No, you are suggesting that their support of one group is an attack on others. Your position is that is wrong.

You proceed to say “fuck em” about Americans who are under threat of attack. Which is a contradiction of your beliefs, at least if you take it at face value. You provide no other context and appear to be of the position that American suffering (individuals, not the regime. We can agree the regime needs to be destroyed) is of no consequence to you.

It’s a shame that both sides of us have to just jump to attacking each other instead of the much larger target that we BOTH agree needs to be dismantled. Much more could be done. This whole “left vs liberal” thing is such a waste of time.

That’s my point. Instead of attacking them, talk to them. Share your opinions, but don’t do it in some “I know more than you” and “I know what your beliefs are” type of way. None of us know each other outside of the little pieces of text we post here.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Alright, continue believing this nonsense. Again, unless you are actively working on a massive coup to destroy this system, then all of your talk and nonsense is going to do nothing to help anyone.

There isn’t one major political group in the entire world that you standing up by doing nothing does anything about. Not one.

And again, you call for the attack of other people in order to save another, which is exactly what you accused him of.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 year ago (6 children)

So I would love to know. Would voting for either no one or a third party be a big “fuck you joe!” with no real world consequences? Is that seriously your belief?

Voting for one of two given candidates is far from actually directly supporting someone. You do not know what they did before the generals. Who they supported in the primaries. Unless you are literally out there plotting the coup to outdo all the coups of mankind and not idly sitting complaining online, then you have zero room to attack someone for voting for the less of two evils.

Unless, of course, you believe Trump would have somehow done better or prevented this. The guy saying he would remove all the Palestinians from the US. The guy that the creators and backers of Project 2025 wants to be their guy

And quit it with the “a tiny percentage of people is better than _____”. For one, well over a million people is not just some group to throw to the side to support another group and you’re literally doing the same thing you’re accusing this person of doing. Second, if you think that trans people by themselves are the only target of all that nonsense, then you are seriously incorrect.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

lol, somehow he believes that if you had voted for Trump none of this would have happened and Trump who is suggesting we remove all Palestinians from the US would have handled this better.

And seemingly also believes that had you done nothing it would have been a more powerful statement. Right, because allowing Trump to win would have been a good “fuck you” to Biden without any real world consequences.

Unless these people are out there plotting the coup of the history of mankind and not just idly complaining on the internet, then they need to just stop.

Oh, then proceeds to come up with some “trans lives don’t matter when compared to _____” or “you care more about ____ than _____?” Again, quit it.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

I’m praying that you are still alive and well. We all know a cat can hold a serious grudge. And multiple?

Stay safe.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

You’re right about that, but I think implying they are Americans only lessens the impact of the statement. Better to say it’s the American ideals. People from London are not American but a significant portion of them are indeed poisoned by ideals of the country, which is the problem.

On that note, I’d normally call similar things a western belief but in this instance it’s such a predominately American vs overall western idea right now that genocide is fine that it’s hard to call it anything but.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago (7 children)

Doesn’t appear to be America…

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I’ll look into it. Thanks.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Not just in a few cycles, but right now. That’s why they keep spewing the bullshit about raising the age to vote. They are already concerned and it just continues to grow.

Believe me, it’s horrible 😩

Hey all. A serious family medical emergency came up today. I do not really know how it's going to turn out right now, so you might not see as much from me for a few days. The release to the App Store is still in process, we are just waiting for a review from Apple, this will not affect that.

If it goes on for a bit, I will make sure that Sean knows how to process a build and release to TestFlight and subsequently to the App Store. I am hopeful that things will turn out alright but it's a pretty scary situation and I'm honestly not sure.

I'll be around in the evenings and will do a bit of work, but I likely will not be reading or replying to anything here. Your feedback will still be monitored and we will be going over that. Additionally, for bug reports, I highly recommend opening an issue on GitHub. It is incredibly easier to read and follow issues opened there. Things here are quickly buried and hard to find.

Thanks for all the support

In order to get up to speed with the people that are coming here without TestFlight, I've submitted a build to Apple with all of the current features and fixes.

I'd anticipate this to take about 24 hours, but it's possible it will be reviewed today. Apple is weird. I've had things get approved in like 8 hours on Saturdays before, so there's a chance it will happen today. I'll update you all when that happens.

Improvements and additions:

  • New icon and options for changing icon color
  • New and improved swipe animation (by the way, this is better than the last update wink)
  • Improvements to image viewer (double tap works now too)
  • Performance enhancments throughout the app
  • Hide read posts
  • Images in comments
  • Collapsible posts
  • Default comment sort
  • All of the "Top" sort options
  • Show a loading modal while downloading images
  • Added a manage accounts button to accounts dropdown
  • Add option for reader in webview
  • Settings improvements
  • Added embark theme
  • Added buttons in comments for upvoting and replying
  • Adjustments to splashscreen
  • Username doesn't link to user profile in compact mode now
  • Add option to use the default browser instead of in-app browser

Fixes:

  • Fix issues with toast not changing color or disappearing
  • Fix cake day showing the wrong year
  • Fix issue where links with an internal IP address would ask for permission to local network
  • Fix issues with account disappearing after app launch
  • Read icon now uses the correct color
  • Fix crash caused when pressing Matrix links
  • Fix crash when searching for a community with an @ at the end

If any of these issues are bothering you now, rest assured they will be fixed for you quite soon.

Hey all!

We got an approved TF version up earlier, should have another one today and that will be submitted to review. I anticipate it would be reviewed either overnight or sometime tomorrow (Apple does do reviews on the weekend thankfully)

I want to clear up two items real quick:

  1. There are edge cases where the app will ask you for access to the local network. This is related to an issue where if an image is linked that is, for some reason, on an internal network (i.e. 192.168.1.1), the app tries to access that to cache the image. Obviously it doesn't exist, but because it's trying to make a local network connection, iOS displays this warning.

For an example of this, please visit my profile in-app and hit posts. I've made a test post inside of /c/test that will trigger the issue. Feel free to just deny access, there's literally no reason to have this enabled.

  1. Just to clear up some questions about what the device ID is used for, there's a comment chain here about all of this in full detail.

TLDR is that it is used for push notifications, and because the auth token from Lemmy we need technically would let us also see your email address, we have to disclose this as being linked to your identity.

If you do not enable push notifications, there is zero information sent to us from the app. And if you do, the only time that traffic is sent from the app is when you enable or disable notifications.

If anyone has questions about anything else, please comment here and I will answer all of them.

Cheers guys!

Ignore the request...

Edit: Other features that were not on the list:

Hey all!

For all of the testers, we have submitted a 0.1 build to TestFlight that needs to get approved. These usually only take a few hours unlike a full store release which usually takes 12-24 hours, so expect that here soon.

First, let me detail what is already fixed in the current TestFlight version and will be in the next store release:

  • Sharing images inside of the image viewer will now download the image to be shared as an image, not as a link
  • Link helper respects the theme and uses the URL keyboard for the link
  • The post viewport should respect keyboard height and fill the remainder of the space
  • Read icon now uses the correct theme/accent color (thanks ktgd)
  • All /c/community links should now work (thanks ktgd)
  • The last account you used is now remembered (thanks jderose)
  • Search will automatically take you to the community or user if you include the @instance
  • All refresh controls will respect the theme (no longer invisible)
  • Added top hour, top six hours, and top twelve hours (I need to add them to defaults, I’ll do that here in a bit)
  • Fixed image save/share not being present in compact mode
  • Made sure that images that are both present in the URL and in the body of the post don’t show up twice
  • Profile reload issues (i.e. if it fails to load) should be fixed
  • Link info not displaying in posts is now fixed
  • Blur respects the current theme
  • Voting on a post in search now reflects that vote
  • Modifications to the profile screen. This will help with load times when all you’re doing is looking at someone’s profile
  • Performance improvements in the feed
  • Performance improvements in comments
  • Collapsing large comment chains no longer causes freeze/crash
  • Performance improvements in profile
  • Performance improvements in inbox

Here are the things being addressed that will be making their way into 0.1 TestFlight builds and should be available on the store either on Friday or Saturday:

  • New swipe animation. Much improved, more performant, and without the visual bugs we have right now
  • Error reporting. You'll get actual error messages now instead of the generic error codes Lemmy sends
  • Markdown enhancements. Pictures in comments should be there, and more than one image in a post will be shown
  • Editing or deleting a post
  • Improvements to image viewer. I cannot PROMISE that swiping through images (like a gallery) will be there but I CAN promise that there shouldn't be any further issues with swipe to dismiss or issues with swiping to close some images
  • Also, iPad users shouldn't have issues with viewing images in landscape mode anymore
  • Other improvements (I'll list them as we add them)
  • Other bug fixes (Same thing, I will list them as I add them)

Things to note:

I've seen some issues with subscriptions not showing up in the Traverse screen. I think this is a server issue, but I will verify that to be sure. I am experiencing this on Lemmy.ml and I think others are experiencing it on Lemm.ee. I wonder if a recent update (lemmy.ml seems to have updated) caused this. I also noticed that my upvote count on the profile has changed, not sure what that might be because of...

For issues, I strongly suggest reporting them on GitHub: https://github.com/memmy-app/memmy

While Sean and I do try to go through posts here, it's MUCH more difficult than it is on GitHub. We have an internal issue tracker that syncs with GitHub that we use to triage and develop roadmaps. It's hard to do that with posts here.

Thanks for all of the INCREDIBLE support over the past day from you guys!

Thank you for all your support over the past weeks. It’s helped us get to this point.

A word of caution: The build that was released is slightly outdated and there are a few issues that have already been addressed in that build. Unfortunately because you can’t replace the build in review, we were not able to update it as we went through this nearly week-long back and forth with Apple. It required an appeal to get us onto the store.

With that said, I’ll be releasing the final version of 0.0.2 tonight to TestFlight, and will begin build versioning starting at 0.1.0, which will be the next release on the store. I’ll try and have something submitted to them tonight and hopefully it will be reviewed and released within a day or so.

I'll update this post here in a few hours with more information. Tonight's build will include another list of bug fixes as well as vast improvements to the slide to upvote/comment feature (no more glitching, hopefully) as well as hopefully fixing a few issues with the image viewer.

This should give us a fairly stable release which I will submit to Apple for review. Thankfully, now that we have completed the initial review future updates should be much quicker (likely around 12-24 hours per update).

See you guys in a bit!

Cheers!

Still fighting with Apple...unfortunately today's rejection was an invalid one. The reviewer somehow "missed" the entirety of the conversation with the last one, and didn't realize that everything that was requested had been implemented and resolved...

I've submitted a response to that as well as escalated it to an appeal. Hopefully today we will hear something back.

Here are the changes made in this version:

The next update should include post deletion/editing as well as the remainder of the missing items in the inbox. Additionally, we have a much better slider available now for comments/posts voting so we will be implementing that.

Thanks! Happy scrolling!

Edit: This has been completed. We needed to move to a CPU optimized server which is now complete. Shouldn't be any more issues aside from instances being unable to respond or federation issues not properly delivering your inbox notifications.

=============================

I'll be doing a push notifications server migration tomorrow as we prepare for a full release. This might be down for a bit as I do that, but it shouldn't take too long.

If you get any old notifications, that's a result of the data not being up to date. Shouldn't be a huge deal, but it might happen.

On that note, Apple replied to the review today stating that we did not have a proper account deletion feature. I've made some changes to the app and given them additional details on how things work. Regardless, I think with the new change we should be 100% within guidelines. Hopefully they pick the review up tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers!

Once I hear back about the responses I have submitted, I will update you all. It is most likely best to just add an option inside of the app to either delete the account through the API or to direct the user to the correct location on the website to do this.

Lots of changes today! Here we go, but first huge thank you to the multiple people who helped out with a lot today with PRs! Lots of good advice, performance, and refactoring!

  • Crash during signup was fixed
  • The ... button at the top of the feed screen has been replaced. It now shows an icon depending on whichever view you're looking at (subscribed, local, etc) (Thanks to https://github.com/jacksonopp)
  • A message will now be presented if you look at the subscriptions screen and you don't have any
  • Feed view has been optimized. Huge thanks to https://github.com/beardwin for his advice on optimization as well as other React Native advice!
  • The header dropdown drawer is now animated as well thanks to https://github.com/beardwin
  • There should be better handling of images that are inside of markdown, especially in the feed view
  • Haptic feedback is now played on all post actions as well as the bookmark option on the feed view
  • All images should now save. Previously, there was an issue saving webp images (which a lot of people seem to share). Shouldn't be a problem now
  • The keyboard accessory in the post view is fixed. It won't disappear anymore.
  • Sharing links with markdown now gives you some dialogs to make this easy. Just set the link and set the label.
  • The selected option is now listed in the action sheet for selecting a sort (thanks again to Thanks to https://github.com/jacksonopp)
  • There is now better visibility for showing the OP of a post
  • Comments now collapse to a much smaller size so they get out of your way (thanks to https://github.com/ktgd)

Lots more fixes will be coming tomorrow as well. Doing a lot of cleanup right now, things are only going up from here!

We will keep you up-to-date on the App Store review process as well. It's now been about 12 hours since initial submission for review.

Happy scrolling!
