it is funny as fuck, though

on which note: I would love to see a kind of "double-blind" experience where a pile of (ideally, more clever/clueful) muskrats get to interact with felon (without knowing that they are), and then watch the fallout as they all go "wtf is this dumbass I'm speaking to"

I'm thinking something in the survivor-y format of shows

probably wouldn't ever happen, felon's too fucking proud (and would 10000000% rig the game to own image advantage). but in a perfect world where this happened, oh wouldn't that just be some great television

love how they edited their comment to be "more specific" and just made it even worse

to get on my developing-nation[0] soapbox for a little bit: it is, and it's also hilarious how often this sort of shit happens with things developed by people who you could largely handwave as "their smallest computer is a 3yo max-spec mbp" (I know this isn't precise but ygwim). "talk to your users" is obviously useful and it's often largely clear that a lot of these orgs don't, but it's even more clear in places further down the economic ladder. the one thing people in such markets often have is bucketloads of time. I do like that the phrasing used in the article was "you do not actually have to spend any money" rather than calling it "free" - this is still work. but you will readily find maaaaaany people who will do this sort of thing

SAP without SAP for those who think they want SAP who feel they can't afford SAP who'll end up paying SAP prices anyway, because no-one involved will just stop and think for a fucking moment

just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist

it might mean your mods do a great job, it might be that you don't hang out in communities that draw chuds, it might be any many more things! it definitely means you don't see the whole fedi at once.

but this shit does still exist

I’ve (irl) met a “part-time” LW reader and tried to have a conversation about some of the shit, and … same experience

just utterly had no ability to even receive the information about the longstanding sexual abuse or statements of yud being a charisma-for-nerds grifter

(had an earlier conversation with ‘em some many months prior calling out many of issues in coiner world after they’d gone laser-eyes having read the bitcoin paper, and they eventually got their head out of their ass, so…. I’m hopeful it’s not all lost yet)

“I was there for the stubsack” is also definitely something you can get on some niche shirts that very few would get

the best kind

bit of a combo-sneer this morning

CNBC put out an article uncritically repeating yet another round of lieboy pulling the exact same shit. I don't recognize the authors immediately, not sure if they're typical bootlickers or not

openai is going in hard, hiring ex-NSA person that was appointed by the walking talk racist mop (via dan gillmor). for the .... safety role! ah yes, I'm sure we'll all be so very surprised by this attempt consolidation of power.

(shameless self-plug)

nice. I've got one of the others after I found it a while back, but it looks like yours has a narrower scope?

for places like deviantart... yeah. I don't really know how you reverse that. containment by clearly marking all the profiles/uploaders (after some way it was detected)? community maintained lists which help defend?

it's such a fucking mess. and we have no choice but to deal with it, otherwise it will just make things even worse. that's the thing that really fucks me off about this stuff. all the undue extra work created for many, many people by the inconsiderate actions of far fewer that nonetheless don't care about their actions.

because I build things (which entails signing up for a service that someone else built)

fucking THIS

I am so immensely fucking tired of seeing "I built an AI to do $x" posts that all fucking reduce to 1) "I strapped a custom input to the openai api (whose inputs and execution I can't control nor reproduce reliably. I am very smart.)", 2) a bad low-scope shitty-amounts-of-training hyperspecific toy model that solves only their exact 5 requirements (and basically nothing else, so if you even squint at it it'll fall apart)

basilisk save us from the moronicity
