And so it begins...

[-] doesit@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

I mean in contemporary times. Not like hindreds or thousands of years ago.
i'm not saying nobody says so. But who justifies war, genocide and land acquisition with biblical/islamic/judaic/... arguments. In this day and age.

[-] doesit@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago

Who stated so?

[-] doesit@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 day ago

Israel and its acolytes "don't help" by keeping repeating it's their biblical right. This results in a unilateral meaning and use of the term "anti-Semitism".

Kind of surprised they haven't thrown the whole embassy out yet.

[-] doesit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Oh well. I tried. Nice talking to you, friend.

[-] doesit@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago

But did you bother to look it up... it always starts with "the answer may surprise you..."

The shooter will (slowly) move backwards because of the recoil. Forever.

Midterms will be either rigged or there will be a "state of emergency" or whatever.
Seems like a lot of people forgot what happened and what almost happened on January 6th. I strongly doubt power will be handed over.

Certainly not after J6

Transamericans also are a thing.

What is your favourite rendition of the Goldberg variations by J.S. Bach?
My go-to version is the 1992 Tatiana Nikolayeva recording. I think it's perfect. For me, the point of reference compared to other versions is how she sets of with the first variation. Most players will wake up the listener by playing it loud and/or fast. She however does it slow and soft. In a natural way, after the aria.
The last few years I've grown very fond of David Fray's recording. Mainly because he plays the whole thing slower than Nikolayeva. I think it's the most romantic recording.
Lang Lang, who I never listened to before, is a close contender to the above two. I was pleasantly surprised. I have the special version with the studio recording and the recording in Bach's Leipzig church. I honestly can't tell the difference between the two recordings.
Recently I started listening to an Andras Schiff live recording. I kind of enjoy the details and his usual metronomic perfection.
Other recordings I listen to frequently are Rosalyn Tureck (sounds like an "old" recording), Fazil Say (kind of "funky"). I find the Alexandre Tharaud recording good, but perhaps it lacks character for me. There are no specific qualities that stood out for me. Perhaps a standard rendition, then?
Versions that I disliked Vikingur Olafsson (too much showing off technical skill i.m.o.; very fond of his Philip Glass recording), Pavel Kolesnikov (too many strange twists or details; although I saw him play it live and was very impressed).
I listen to the Goldbergs everyday. Never get bored by it. They are my safe haven. I wonder sometimes why I have the rest of my collection.
Edit : Forgot about Glenn Gould. Like for most, he was my entry into Bach. Also his Goldberg recordings. Must admit I never give him a listen anymore.

Pixelfed needs Big Names (sh.itjust.works)

The problem with leaving IG behind is all my friends are on there. None of them are on Pixelfed.
Famous people with hundreds of thousands followers could change this. They have the critical mass. Their followers will automatically follow. Does anybody have direct access to such people? Who can then spread the word in those circles...🫤
EDIT : I meant celebrities, not influencers.

I hate Instagram. Because every post results in Meta knowing more about me and getting better in manipulating me and society. Locked in because of the critical mass. For now, it's the only way to keep in touch with international friends.
Would you be willing to make a Pixelfed account? Today? And double post everything for a while, on Insta and Pixelfed?
It's the only way to make this work, I think. Slowly creating a critical mass without dumping Insta rightaway. For the moment you and your friends won't miss out on anything. Along the way mention from time to time on Pixelfed there are no ads, no manipulative algorithm, ...
There are tool to import your Insta posts with hashtags and timestamps. Although, apparently, these don't work perfect yet.
Continue doubleposting until half of your contacts have done the same. Then start only posting to Pixelfed, simultaneously posting an Instagram post saying you and most others have switched and why.
Could this work?
EDIT : perhaps my question is : How can we make this into something trending?
EDIT 2 : if you already switched. Did you manage to convince some of your contacts?
EDIT 3 : i started contacting famous persons (blue tick) that i follow on ig. "Question. Would you consider opening a parallel account on PIXELFED? No algorithm, no ads, server in a country of your choice. As to slowly move away from Meta. You have enough critical mass."

Strange start to a post... A lifelong friend of mine was euh, killed recently. The kind of stuff you only see in movies. Somehow it started a creative musical process. I sing out of tune, but the making was more important than the result. It was kind of a therapeutic.
I do everything with Teenage Engineering OPxy and OP1field. A long time ago I used to play on the train with a Yamaha QY70. Didn't do anything for 10 - 15 years. Some years ago I started DAW'ing. But starting up computer and cubase, sitting behind a computer, in a fixed room, cables, linking plug-ins ... I hate it.
Enter Teenage Engineering. Just power it on and continue on your project or try something new.. Wherever, whenever. You don't need both machines. Got the field first. As a lot of people discovered, it's a totally different approach and more akin to a band rehearsing live. Missed midi/sequencing. Added the xy and now I have my perfect "studio".
My workflow is 80% of the track is made on the OPxy. Then I record to OP1f. There I add extra sounds or beats but mainly vocals (also great vocoder).
You can listen to the project mentioned above here, on soundcloud.

A friend of mine was brutally murdered. It was a way of coping. It's partially fictional. I sing very out of tune. All made with Teenage Engineering opxy and op1f.
