Yeh. This wasn't meant to be a Wesley hate post by any means.

This was meant to be a based observation that while Wesley had less barriers to an officer position than Nog, both still earned their position.

I don’t know, but I do have to applaud how they did Data. First few scenes were enjoyable, and when it got annoying I felt it was purposeful.

I agree with you. Thinking on it, I wonder if that's only a season 1 premise and they'll eventually get beyond that.

Now what would make it really interesting (but they probably won't do) is if this comedy had a backdrop of a weakened postwar Dominion a.k.a this resort planet is in the Gamma Quadrant. It would be very interesting to use it to explore the new power structures that develop in the quadrant since the weakened power of the Founders. You could also showcase how Alpha quadrant polities interact with Dominion worlds (kind of like what we saw with the Karemma in LD "Hear All, Trust Nothing") - we have an episode with Federation diplomats at the resort negotiating a trade deal, for instance (this could even be our excuse to bring in an LD character or two).

Fun Fact: These noises actually comprised much of the background “whir” for TNG. People were used to tuning it out when watching TNG, but were confused when they heard it during one of the DS9 episodes where Alexander came back since they hadn’t heard it for a while.

I think I meant to put TWOK, for Wrath of Khan. TOK was an IB class I took in high school, so my brain defaulted to that.

Honestly, no. I just use direct apt commands on my Debian installs for native stuff, assuming I even use the shell for that; sometimes, if it's not a complex update that's going to hold back 1.0*10^6^ packages, I just use Synaptic or Package Updater, frankly, as one of those is what I have my XFCE Package Update Indicator set to use on any machine I use frequently and it's convenient sometimes.

As for Flatpaks, I just run the flatpak update command whenever I feel bored. I wish Warehouse GUI supported updating, just because I find it really weird that's excluded from an otherwise pretty slick application that gets rid of me having to muck through the Flathub.

I don't write Rust code at the moment, and as for Python, I'm either using the Debian version of Python packages or scattered venvs that follow a de facto standard for Python developers: "What's an update?"

"Such an amateur lack of focus and balance."

Most of that sounds pretty easy to pull off. I have a few thoughts, though:

  • What games do you run in Steam?
  • Just a bit of a warning: Discord is annoying about updates, at least with the Debian version. I can't remember what the Flatpak does.
  • For MS Office, most distros should come with LibreOffice. If you have problems with LibreOffice, then Google Docs should be fine.
  • You'll have to run Spotify from the browser, but I imagine that won't be a problem, as you're probably not an audiophile
  • Run GIMP as a Flatpak, as distro versions tend to have weird bugs with the resynthesizer plugin.

Have you seen the VOY one they did as well of the salamander Tom Paris episode?

TAS really is (besides maybe that weird stuff with the inflatable Enterprise, giant Spock, or that iffy bit of chauvinism in "The Slaver Weapon") a great TOS continuation. I loved The Lorelei Signal for giving Uhura and Chapel the opportunity to be girl bosses.

On a bit of a tangential note, I hope we get some excuse to see young April. It kind of makes me sad that STA is going to be set in the 32nd century and not the peaceful yet mysterious 2290s-2330s period. I feel like you could have just depicted academy life without all the "save the universe drama" (okay, maybe just a little, but not every episode) while following the late careers of a few officers like April or Sulu.

Especially the beginning part.

DS9, but I also have a fondness for LD.

I gotta agree with Magic Carpet Ride, but otherwise, I enjoy that weird campy music Fear plays in VOY: The Thaw.

I don't know about other games, but it wasn't too terrible playing Civ 6.
