This is amazing.

I have so many thoughts on this that I’m having trouble articulating. On one hand, Remedy has built such a rich and lore-filled world beloved by fans, and they’ve already tried their hand at live action with Quantum Break (meh). This could and maybe even should be successful. On the other, those worlds are already pretty solidly built by the actors that portray them like Courtney Hope, Matthew Porretta, Ikka Villi, and James McCaffery. I can’t imagine anyone successfully stepping into those roles.

But then, we have the major flops like the Witcher adaptation and Halo (I think? Never a fan but I’ve heard good and bad things). I know those had even more lore and perhaps even bigger worlds, bigger budgets…and they still managed to disappoint the entire fanbase.

Can you imagine them doing justice to the Ashtray Maze on TV without a bunch of blurry CGI? Or the insidious self doubt and psychological terror in Alan Wake without a bunch of jump scares?

I love AnnaPurna and Remedy so I’m truly hoping for the best.

Not if you modulate the warp field dynamics with an inverted neutrino beam. Hmph someone clearly didn’t pay attention in Professor O’Brien’s Warp Field Theory class at the academy.

Congress. The place where they’ll take even more money out of the abysmally underfunded education, nutrition and child care programs, and send them to a single overbudget gross expenditure in who-the-fuck-knows.

But right now it’s the god damn useless House. Before it was McConnell’s Senate treachery. The legislative branch would work wonders if both houses were blue.

Pffft. Who needs an owners manual when you have red shirts to sacrifice while you learn?

Oh. I like this. I’d really enjoy seeing this exhibited.

Yesss! I so wish I had picked that up during their launch sale when it was cheaper. I’ve been holding off cause of the comments while in Early Access but it looked phenomenal at launch. Seems like it just needs a bit of polish. It’s on my list for the next sale.

I’ve tried Hollow Knight 3x now and given up on it. I just can’t get into it for some reason. Loved Ori and the Will of the Wisps. HK goes in the bucket with Outer Wilds, universally loved games that didn’t click for me.

Love that the art style reminds me of a grown-up version of Rugrats. Looks interesting and fun. I’ll have to wishlist it for the current price.

Gris and Monument Valley hold very special places in my heart. This looks really promising.

Edit: for the sake of discussion, after looking at some of the comments on the vid. Any other games that fit this niche? Someone said:

Am I late or oblivious? Is grte the bot? I couldn’t tell from the post history. Or is this way, way over my old-aged head?

I don’t even want to imagine the environmental studies and hurdles they’ll have to jump through to artificially alter an areas day/night cycle. There’s a laundry list of environmental concerns that I’m sure any homeowner or eco-activist worth their salt would jump on. Not to mention glare and impacts to air traffic, on and on.

Would make my solar panels pretty darn effective though. Would probably be great for SAD in winter too. Clever idea. Not sure I can get behind it though.

Scientists Trained a Lump of Goo to Play Pong

The goo only got a little better at playing pong, but scientists are confident it could improve if we teach it to feel pain.

Our bathroom sink overflow is driving me crazy with the awful smell.

I know it gets contaminated through regular drainage rather than overflow drainage. If I don’t clean it out at least once a week, foul smelling crud accumulates in the overflow slot.

I’ve changed the drain assembly 2x. I’ve disinfected it, used hospital-grade cleaners, hot water, vinegar. Nothing helps unless I clean the accumulated sludge, and I can’t figure out why it’s accumulating in the first place.

Should I plug the overflow slow? Tape over it? Is it the sink design that’s defective? I’m at a loss.

Edit: Article with some background and history on her + a better and longer YT vid (hilariously titled “The Weaker Sex”)

Our laundry room sink has this bizarre attachment to to the back of the drain line clean out. It would almost seem like it was or is supposed to be a vent. Recently it’s started to give off a foul sewer smell when our washing machine rinses.

Can I safely plug it? Maybe remove it if I can manage to pry it off? When I asked our plumber what it was, he just smirked and said it was a “crazy thing.”

Anyone have resources for finding book summary pdfs? I have Blinkist already.

I am interested in Shortform but they never run any discounts. Their summaries are fantastic.

1950s house with block foundation. I’ve patched these areas with hydraulic cement. That didn’t work so I stripped and cleaned the areas thoroughly then repatched. It improved but still getting lots of leaking where the foundation and floor meet or just above.

The main trouble spot sits next to the water heater where some old oil tank lines were. Can I safely cut those out with an angle grinder and try to patch that up? There’s a giant concrete hump that encases them where the water leaks over too.

Our exterior is naturally moist. We’ve got a sump pump, French drain, gutters discharges all well away from the house. Short of digging up and putting in new footer tiles (which I definitely can’t afford now), I’m at a loss.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Waterproof paint? Block filler?
