Here's an idea. Perhaps watches are items with a legacy of lasting years and years? With people wanting to treat them as such? Once the market is saturated and prospective customers already satisfied with what they have, of course you'll stop selling them.

Patents can cover many aspects of design. Sometimes, these aspects are positive and deserve protection for the original inventors. Other times, the claims could be so obscure and 'thats obvious to anyone' that it's a waste to protect them - but (sometimes ignorant) patent attorneys fail to do their research and award patents anyway.

It could be that the keyboard being below the screen in that form factor was considered novel. It could be the trackball used in the centre. It could be the two combined, then attached to a phone. It could be the shaping and ergonomic aspect of the keyboard. It could be raises or detents to aid location of keys for fast typing on a handheld device.

I adore mine. Not the best for GPU-intensive games like Elden Ring or Resident Evil 4 remake.... But for essentially everything else it's just the best.

Minecraft, 90fps Balatro, Slay The Spire, Binding of Isaac and similar.... 90fps Dark Souls 1-3 - 90fps!

Yes it's a really enjoyable game with unlimited variation and possibility. It pretty much handles anything you want to do too.... Don't like one of the characters in your last playthrough? Yeet them off a cliff when you meet them on the next playthrough and the game, characters and dialogue all manage to account for it. Insanely well made in that regard alone.
