I like to rag on Amazon as much as the next guy here, but this article seems a tad misleading. They do still show up when you plug them in. The article even says they use MTP now instead of functioning as a direct USB mass storage drive, which means you can still plug them into your PC and transfer files though File Explorer. Android handles USB file transfers the same way, and that works fine.

Wait what's the deal with the horses? I want to feel good about myself today.

Edit: Wow, those bastards have it rough.

I will not have the Osprey's good name besmirched like this, I'll have you know these things fly around here all the time and only ~~one~~ two have ever crashed in the forest outside town!

One painful firmware update later and the z-offset bug that has plagued me since getting the Neptune 4 Pro is finally resolved and first layers are good again just like that. I just had to share the thrilling end result.

Yeah this was supposedly an hour and a half before it began, and pictures from during the event show it full. It's funny to imagine, but don't let scenes like this make you think you don't need to vote.

The people in every one of these Starliner threads seemingly hoping for the worst case scenario to occur just so they can dunk on Boeing for it are disturbing

[-] atocci@lemmy.world 150 points 2 years ago

Just to be clear on this again, they aren't "stuck" because they're in danger, the stay keeps getting extended so engineers can gather as much information as possible about the leaks before they return. Starliner is still fully capable of reentry, but this is Boeing's last chance to collect data that can be used to fix these issues in the future. The leak problem is in Starliner's service module, which detaches from the capsule before reentry and burns up in the atmosphere, so there won't be anything left to study after the astronauts return.

This article seems to be playing up the idea that the astronauts are in some sort of danger, but NASA has repeatedly stressed that is not the case. These extensions are for research and information gathering, so improvements can be made that properly address the issue in the future.

I've also lost trust in Boeing, but a lot of the reporting surrounding this mission is starting to get annoying. It almost feels like they want a disaster just so they can write about it.

I like this article on the most recent docking extension more. https://www.space.com/starliner-astronaut-mission-landing-delay-july-2024
