A review of the most recent release of Manjaro. I primarily use Debian distros like Mint and MX but the overall ease and user friendliness of this Arch based distro definitely makes me want to give it a go.

Far Cry 6. Its a pretty solid dumb shooter game with an okay story, lots of fun guns and tons of bs to get into.

By basic they mean boring. Its programs tend to be slightly older but more stable with new releases coming during patches and major version changes. However, that also prevents programs being broken by someone pushing an update that isn't done cooking.

I use mine for gaming, programming, art, basic internet usage and have had zero issues so far. The software center, used for getting new programs, is extremely easy to use and snappy. The default programs are all tried and tested, and the cinnamon desktop is very windows like.

I will say I have been using linux for a few years now and only have amd hardware when it comes to my cpu/gpu. Not sure if Nvidia plays quite as well with it but mint is a great place to start for most folks. If not the best part of linux is that you have plenty of other easy options you can try and nearly all totally free!

Thanks for the recommendation! Definitely going to have to give the XFCE or LXQt atomic desktops a try!

Looks great! How does Fedora Silverblue do with hardware with such low specs? Been trying to find a good replacement OS for a machine around that age and was considering going with FSB but was worried it would be too heavy on the system.

Just some coverage of a few systems from Jesse at distrowatch. Sadly, neither MenuetOS nor Sparky CDE go anywhere due to issues.

Love the classic XFCE look! Is Salix similiar to slackware or some sort of derivative?

I used MX for a bit. Its actually pretty solid and I liked their Fluxbox setup. Very similar to Mint as it provides quite a solid suite of tried and tested tools and is fairly easy to get started with if you have basic computer experience. It also has non-systemd options for those who are into that. Quite a few reasons for folks to check it out so I am not shocked its towards the top of the list.

Just a simple run down of DistroWatch's best distros of the year.

Currently using Linux Mint Mate and I gotta agree with them that it's pretty fucking great. Whats everyone's favorite distro of 2025?

Looks adorable! Love the bird and the pattern on the teacup!

Tried it awhile back. I primarily use either Gnome or MATE but I found Cosmic to be a solid setup as well. Worked well for all my games though I primarily play strategy titles (CK3, Vic3, EU5) so my experience is limited to those. The only thing that stuck out to me is that as far as I can tell Cosmic doesn't have hdr support (been a minute since I last tried it so this may no longer be true).

Not Linux but I figured a review of a Unix system would also be of interest here.

A review of the new version of Gnoppix AI Linux from DistroWatch. Seems to be in a fairly poor state and fulfills little of what it actually claims to do. Not shocked from something claiming to be an AI focused Linux distro.

A short review of the recent MX Linux 25. Solid review and it's good to see a great distro like MX get some coverage.
